POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: EXTENDED TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Director Director, Diversity Programs Exempt CATEGORY: Administrative GRADE: B JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Diversity Programs is the College leading champion for employee and student diversity, supporting the College’s mission, vision, and core values. This position is responsible for the district-wide leadership and direction in the advancing commitment to diversity, inclusion and multicultural awareness. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Develop overall strategy, including goals and programs, designed to increase and support workplace and campus diversity and inclusion. Act as an advisor to all of employees on diversity issues to build and maintain a diverse student body and workforce and provide leadership and support to the College’s commitment to diversity. 2. Responsible for the strategic planning and operational management of the department. Research, plan, recommend, and implement departmental budget. Provide personnel management and direction to include orientation, training, performance appraisal, coaching and professional development. 20% 3. Coordinate and monitor all programs related to increasing and maintaining diversity in the workplace. Cooperate with faculty and staff interested in designing programs which affirm and address multicultural issues. 15% 4. Develop, conduct, and coordinate soft skill educational training programs and workshops for administrative, classified and professional staff. 10% 5. Assess the District’s multicultural climate and identify organizational bridges and barriers to multicultural issues. Design and present training and programs that foster and demonstrate diversity. 10% 6. Coach managers/supervisors on effective methods to ensure the development and maintenance of a work environment that fosters sensitivity and respect for people of diverse backgrounds, cultures and disabilities. 10% 7. Act as a liaison within the organization to ensure coordination in the implementation of the diversity strategy throughout the organization. Act as a resource, both internal and external to the organization, on diversity issues. 10% 8. BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES: Departmental budgets. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Counseling, Education, Organizational Psychology or related field. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years directly related work experience in diversity. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with teams of people to complete tasks; ability to direct and manage a broad range of internal/external activities; and, an understanding of functions and programs with a community college. Demonstrated current knowledge of discrimination laws, and current knowledge of trends, developments and best practices in affirmative action, equal opportunity and diversity. Excellent ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community Highest ethics, integrity and confidentiality consistent with the position.
