Job Vacancy Announcement Department of Human Resources PO Box C07, Tsaile, AZ 86556 928-724-6603 POSITION TITLE: Community Health Educator VACANCY NUMBER: LOCATION: OPEN PERIOD: 099.SR15.STF Shiprock Campus – Science/Public Health May 11, 2016 Open Until Filled Role: The Community Health Educator is responsible for assisting the SAMHSA HIV/HCV/Substance Abuse Prevention project staff with the ongoing project planning and coordination to meet the goals and objectives of the project. Duties and Responsibilities: 100% SAMHSA Job Responsibilities: 1. Assist with the planning and facilitation of HIV/HCV presentations, group sessions and outreach activities for project target population; 2. Assist with anonymous HIV/HCV testing referrals and counseling, and follow-up activities; 3. Assist with the planning and facilitation of data collection and evaluation of prevention programming; 4. Assist in providing culturally appropriate risk reduction counseling to members of the target population who participate in high-risk activities; 5. Coordinating prevention activities with all programs and services working with the target population, including community based organization and traditional medicine men/healers; 6. Assist in preparing and submitting quarterly reports to supervisor in a timely manner; 7. Support the Student Peer Educators with their given tasks; 8. Attend Dine’ BaHozho Coalition monthly meetings with other staff and Peer Educators to report and give update on project events; 9. Attend regular project meetings to give reports or updates; and 10. All other duties as assigned by the Assigned Supervisor. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Behavioral/Social Sciences or a related field and/or experience and research experience with the Navajo community. Experience: Applicant must have experience working in rural native communities. Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate/competent services for the MSI/CBO Project. Must have experience with evidence-based Substance Abuse/HIV/HCV prevention. Must have experience with direct and indirect environmental strategies for the population of focus. Relevant experience in any public health or health education/promotions program. Knowledge of public health research methods and research study designs. Must have documented completion of HIPAA and IRB Human Subjects certifications (as needed). Must have a state driver’s license and a good driving record. Must be able to travel with the Navajo Nation and surrounding communities to fulfill project goals and objectives. Must have a high level of organizational skills (scheduling, time management, documentation) and be responsible to fulfill position requirements with limited day to day supervision.
