Roles:

A part-time adjunct faculty is responsible for teaching up to a maximum of three courses (9 units) for the Social and Behavioral

Science, including instruction, keeping track of attendance, grades of all students as a temporary employee for Dine’ College.

Duties and Responsibilities:

100%

 Instruction and curriculum. Times, days, and site(s) for teaching of courses vary and mode of delivery may include distance education. As a multisite college faculty may be required to teach at satellite centers.

Minimum Qualifications:

For teaching of 100-200 level courses: Minimum of a master degree in the respective discipline with minimum coursework of 24 credit hours of upper division and/or graduate credit in the discipline to be taught.

Education:

Experience:

For teaching of 300-400 level courses: Minimum of master degree in the respective disciplines with a minimum of 24 credit hours of upper division and/or graduate credit in the discipline to be taught with demonstration of extensive or specialized discipline knowledge. (PPPM.400.12 rev.02.09)

Minimum standards for Special Dine Scholars Credentials include rigorous testing, validation, verification, special certification, specialized clinical experience or expertise through wide critical and public recognition. (PPPM 400.12)

A minimum of two years satisfactory or above college teaching in an institution of higher education in at least one of the following areas: anthropology, history, political science, psychology, sociology, or social work.

Skills, Trainings & Other Conditions

1.

A faculty is expected to have a high degree of proficiency in computer software used to support the administration of higher education.

2.

Software use includes but not limited to, general office functions such as MS Word, Excel,

Outlook, and internet services.

Other Skills: 3.

In addition, a faculty is expected to utilize academic-specific programs for course delivery

(face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous), and course maintenance (such as grade submissions, posting of syllabus, etc…).

As noted, the College has multiple sites: a faculty may be required to travel to and teach at any site.

Language : Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.

Pre-Employment policies as indicated in the Dine College Personnel Policies and Procedures

Manuel, 300.01, Section F. for background verification, and 400.04, Section H.1., for substance abuse prevention. Upon hiring, sixty (60) workdays probationary period from the start of employment.

The new adjunct faculty member:

1.

Will be issued a temporary contract to teach for the academic semester.

2.

Shall have no property rights or expectations of renewal or retention upon expiration of each instructor contract.

3.

Will be evaluated for effectiveness by their supervisor prior to a notification for renewal of contract.

4.

Will be informed of reasons for non-renewal; and

5.

Every faculty shall be credentialed.
