VACANCY NUMBER: 022.TS11.CL POSITION TITLE: LOCATION: STUDENT ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Internal: Tsaile, AZ Grade 7: Open: External Open: $10.66-$13.32 04/01/2011 Close: 04/15/2011 04/01/2011 Close: 04/15/2011 Major Duties and Responsibilities: Description of the Job Responsibilities: Utilize the Shiprock Campus as a center of student life with on-campus leisure time during out-ofclassroom periods. Offer the trailer space as the “living room” for daily commuter students to provide guidance opportunity, computer resources, support information and services for the college students which is directed toward the educational purposes of DC. students from an interdisciplinary talent venue: Plan, implement and coordinate activities for college Music, Traditional/Ethnic Arts, Exhibitions, Festivals, Live Music, Novelty Attractions, Performing Arts, conferences and workshops. Coordinate student activities with the Tsaile Campus which includes monitoring expenditure activities planning, talent search recommendations, and confirming potential entertainment venue. Block booking schedules with Shiprock Campus to coordinate events to be shared with other DC sites. Coordinate student employment workers/student volunteers from the Federal Work/Study Program and Navajo Nation Office of Youth Development employment program resources to provide support to student activities at the Shiprock campus. Utilize the Student Union Building as meeting room, office, lounges, commuter room, and scheduling setup in the Gym as the performance stage, using portable stages /PA systems. Decoration setup for conferences and workshops schedule with Tsaile departments with organizations other than Dine College entities: Navajo Nation, BIA IHS, local school districts, community schools, local businesses and visiting colleges. Submit paper flow, and documentation of confirmed events, publicity flyers posting, designing posters for news media outlet, advertisement process, required college forms, events reporting data collection, supply shopping and purchasing for activity events. Office duties, filing, emailing, Xeroxing, faxing, typing, tracking sign-in sheets from students, staff, faculty and visitors. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Associate Degree or closely related field Experience: A minimum of three years in activities planning in a higher educational institution setting plus a minimum of one year experience working with the Navajo people or ethnic minorities. Must have a minimum of two years supervisory experience. Other Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Ability to speak Navajo preferred. Knowledge of Navajo culture, history, and mission of Diné College’s Educational Philosophy. Must know characteristics of student attending institutions of higher education. Community Outreach practices via public relations. Utilization of data effectively in reporting numbers served in quarterly reports. Weekend and evening hours required during major events & willing to work flex hours. Provide a “student-centered” approach to programs and services that enhances campus culture, climate & community. Special Training & Experience: Recreational Management; Familiar with Public Address sound systems general set up; Familiar with Exhibitors booth curtain systems…sectional “in-line” or “back to back” booth set up; Ability to coordinate recreational events for conference & workshops. Language: Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of fluency in the speaking and writing of the English language. Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
