Cameron hosts regional library association meeting

Area librarians and their staffs met at Cameron University March 23 for one of several regional meetings held statewide to explore the potential of cooperative activities. The meetings, facilitated by representatives of the Oklahoma Library Association’s Career Recruitment and Retention committee, also enabled the committee to address a predicted future shortage of librarians

.

The meeting was comprised of area academic, public library, school and military librarians. Participants discussed such topics as possible ways to attract non-librarians to the profession, Oklahoma Library

Association Legislative Committee activities and ideas for new types of interlibrary cooperation.

The Lawton Oklahoma Library Association event continued a tradition of regional library meetings at

Cameron dating back to 1947. That January, Cameron State Agricultural College’s campus cafeteria served as the site for an Association of College & Research Libraries Junior College Section regional conference, a meeting that was jointly sponsored by the Lawton Carnegie Public Library and Cameron

College Librarians.
