For Immediate Release – Lawton, OK, Oct. 5, 2004 Cameron University education majors score 100 percent on teacher certification testing The 2004 Title II Institutional Status Report indicates that Cameron University scored a 100-percent pass rate by education majors taking all components of the Oklahoma licensure/certification tests for teachers during 2002-2003. A total of 84 Cameron students were tested by the program and all passed, placing CU in the first quartile among Oklahoma teacher preparation programs. Cameron’s rating increased three points from the 97 percent pass rate from the previous testing period. Of the 22 public and private universities in Oklahoma that have teacher preparation programs, Cameron was one of only six to record a perfect score. The others were Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma City University, Oklahoma State University, Panhandle State University and Southern Nazarene University. “We are now compiling our 2003-2004 institutional data and anticipate continued high pass rates. We have no reason to think otherwise,” said Dr. Judy Neale, Dean of the CU School of Education and Behavioral Sciences. “Cameron students have always performed well due to the dedication of the faculty and the support of local public schools.” The institutional status report is a federally required process designed to ensure accountability for the nation’s teacher education programs. – 30 – PR#04-225 Editors and Broadcasters: For details, contact CU Government & Community Relations at 580.581.2211.
