Cameron to begin construction on $7.5
million Business Building
The laws of gravity state, “What goes up, must come down,” but officials at Cameron University believe the
opposite is also true, at least, in regards to the school’s Business Building. After receiving approval from
The University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents today,
Cameron selected Midwest Wrecking of Oklahoma City to demolish the existing Business Building which
will clear the way for the construction of a new state-of-the-art learning facility. CU officials expect to break
ground on the new building in October.
“The School of Business is one of Cameron University’s most rapidly expanding educational programs and
academic divisions,” President Cindy Ross said. “We are thrilled to provide our students a modern, firstrate facility that will help prepare them to be competitive in the global marketplace.”
The Business Building will occupy more than 32,000 gross square feet on the CU campus. Some
highlights of the facility will be a 114-seat auditorium, state-of-the-art computer and accounting labs,
interaction areas where students can collaborate with other students and faculty, and a career center which
holds an interview practice area.
“The new Business Building reflects a collaborative learning environment in which students and faculty will
mutually benefit,” said Sylvia Burgess, E.D., Dean of the School of Business. “CU students receive a
rigorous business education. The benefits of new levels of technology, instruction and peer interaction will
allow our graduates to increasingly realize their potential for creating world class enterprises right here in
the heart of Southwest Oklahoma.”

The total cost of the Business Building project will be $7.5 million. Capitol bond money from the Oklahoma
Higher Education Promise Act of 2005 will provide the majority of the project’s funding in addition to money
allocated from Cameron’s 2006-07 Education and General Operating Budget.
