2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter February 8th to 12th, 2016 Volume 19, Issue 23 N Monday We wrote our ‘Weekend News’. We greeted each other, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We sang our Days and Months songs, subitized and read our popcorn words. We did our A BC charts and sang our vowel song. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the Week shared his/her poster and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We read My Picture Story and learned about characters and settings in stories. We also identified characters and settings after reading Arthur’s Baby by Marc Brown. We learned our new popcorn word ‘no’ and did rainbow writing of it. We were introduced to our poem of the week, ‘My Shadow’. We graphed whether we watched the Super Bowl. We read My First Chinese New Year. The AM class had library. The PM class did Literacy Workshop. We made thank you cards for Mrs. Hanks for school counselor week. Tuesday Our math starter today was How Many?. We greeted our friends, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC charts with digraphs. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week brought something for science and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. The AM class wrote about the science image and did literacy workshop. The PM class had library. We found the characters and settings in Arthur’s Goes to Camp by Marc Brown. We read Celebrating Patriotic Holidays, The White House and The Statue of Liberty. We watched a Brainpop, Jr. about U.S. Symbols. We figured out our mystery number. We played Partner Bingo 0-30. Wednesday We greeted one another, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words. We did ‘Action Alphabet’. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week brought items for us to estimate and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We identified the characters and setting after reading Arthur’s Birthday by Marc Brown. We wrote our sight words and any other words we cold think of. We learned about non-fiction text features and found them during literacy workshop. We sequenced the lines of our poem. We found our mystery number. Mrs. Barley and Mrs. Gearhart awarded two students with Student of the Month certificates. Thursday We counted on to find missing numbers. We greeted classmates. We sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We did blend cards and reviewed habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week shared something for Social Studies and we wrote our final sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We kept our personal writing goals in mind as we wrote independently about our kindergartner of the week. We read, highlighted the popcorn word in and illustrated our poem. We identified the characters and the settings in Arthur Meets the President by Marc Brown. We did literacy workshop. We read Young Abraham Lincoln. We found our mystery number and read Me and the Measure of Things and explored various types of measurement. Friday We completed the missing numbers, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise, greeted friends, read our popcorn words and reviewed habits of thinkers. We had Family Friday. We practiced writing our first and last names in D’Nealian handwriting. We did shared reading and read Arthur’s Valentine. We did literacy workshop. We decorated valentines bags and exchanged valentines.
