2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter March 7th to 11th, 2016 Volume 19, Issue 27 N Monday Tuesday We did 5-bean addition. We greeted classmates, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days’ and ‘Months’ songs, subitized to 1-12 dots, read our popcorn words, did our ABC chart, sang our vowel song and reviewed our habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week shared his/her poster. We learned that some words have silent letters and we just have to remember how to spell them and we used some silent letters as wrote a sentence about our kindergartner of the week using interactive writing. We learned our new popcorn word ‘come’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss and then we wrote words that rhyme with cat and can. We were introduced to our new poem ‘Jelly Beans’. We did shared reading and read My Town. We had recess. We did literacy workshop. We did 6-bean addition. We greeted our friends, sang America the Beautiful, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC charts with digraphs and reviewed the habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week shared something for social studies and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. Afterward, we located all the silent letters in the sentence. We read Silent Letters Loud and Clear. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. The AM class did literacy workshop. The PM class had library. We did shared reading and read And to Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street! We then drew and wrote about what each of us ‘saw’ on Mulberry Street. We had recess. We solved our mystery number. Wednesday We did 7 bean addition. We greeted one another, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words. We did ‘Action Alphabet’. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week brought in something for us to estimate and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing, then found the silent letters in it. We sequenced the lines of our poem. We did shared reading and read As the Crow Flies. We wrote a dictation sentence in the cafeteria. We read There’s a Map on My Lap! We had recess. We did literacy workshop. The AM class had library. We had a brief assembly to award our February Students of the Month. Thursday We greeted classmates, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We did blend cards and reviewed habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week shared something for social studies and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We then located the silent letters in our sentence. Then we each wrote our own sentence about him/her. We read, highlighted the popcorn words in and illustrated our poem. We located Ohio on the map and learned about continents. We read Me on the Map and we each drew and labeled a map of our bedroom. We read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. We watched the fifth grade musical. Friday We started off with ‘red fish, blue fish’ addition. We greeted each other, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class pledge and did calendar. We counted on from three different numbers, read our popcorn words and reviewed our habits of thinkers. The PM class had Family Friday. We highlighted the popcorn words in and read ‘Will It Come? The AM class read Bunny Cakes and made a list on Dr.Seuss paper. We did shared reading and read Maybe Y ou Should Fly a Jet! by Dr. Seuss. We did a Time for Kids – Animal Helper. We did a floor graph telling whether we would rather be a haircutter, a librarian, a baker or an astronaut the best? We showed what we can be responsible for. We practiced writing our first and last names in D’Nealian handwriting. We had fitness and recess.
