2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter March 14th to 18th, 2016 Volume 19, Issue 28 N Monday Tuesday We did 8-bean addition. We greeted classmates, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days’ and ‘Months’ songs, subitized to 1-12 dots, read our popcorn words, did our ABC chart, sang our vowel song and reviewed our habits of thinkers. Our AM kindergartner of the week shared his/her poster. We learned our new popcorn word ‘here’ and did rainbow writing of it. We were introduced to our new poem ‘Little Rabbit’ and did shared reading. We read Officer Buckle and Gloria and had a special guest to teach us about safety, Officer McKenna from the Dublin Police Dept. We had recess. We wrote about a safety tip and did literacy workshop. The PM class read Bunny Cakes and made a list on Dr.Seuss paper. We did a St Patrick’s Day counting activity. We greeted our friends, sang America the Beautiful, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC charts with digraphs and reviewed the habits of thinkers. Our AM kindergartner of the week shared something for science and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We watched brief research videos of eight Penny Harvest organizations and then voted for our choices. We read Dr. Seuss’s ABC and did a rhyming word matching activity. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. The AM class had library. We did shared reading and read Stop, Drop and Roll! We did a Time for Kids – An Artist and an Author. We had recess. The PM class watched Kids for Safety. We solved our mystery number. Wednesday We did a St Patrick’s Day counting, tallying and writing activity. We greeted one another, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words. We did ‘Action Alphabet’. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. Our AM kindergartner of the week brought in something for us to estimate and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We read Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss and we brainstormed and wrote the ‘en’ and ‘et’ word families. Our clothes pin graph was ‘do you know what you want to be when you grow up?”. We sequenced the lines of our poem. We read The Luckiest St. Patrick’s Day Ever!. We made leprechaun puppets. We had recess. The PM class had library. The AM class watched Kids for Safety. Thursday We skip counted by tens in writing, greeted classmates, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We did blend cards and reviewed habits of thinkers. Our AM kindergartner of the week shared something for social studies and we wrote a sentence about her using interactive writing. Then we each wrote our own sentence about him/her. We read Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss. We brainstormed and wrote the ‘in’ and ‘it’ word families. We read, highlighted the popcorn words in and illustrated our poem. We read Ten Lucky Leprechauns and we each did our March Writing Sample. We graphed whether we have ever found a four-leaf clover. The PM class did fitness and read and highlighted the popcorn words in our popcorn word book, ‘Here Are Three’. We made traffic lights to remind us that red means slow, yellow means be careful and green means go. Friday The AM class started off with ‘Roll and Cover’ sums. We greeted each other, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class pledge and did calendar. We counted on from three different numbers, read our popcorn words and reviewed our habits of thinkers. We had Family Friday. We highlighted the popcorn words in and read ‘’Here Are Three’? We had fitness and recess. We rotated through various community and Dr. Seuss puzzles and activities. Many of the AM students returned for Celebration of Clovers. The PM class arrived and got buddied up for Celebration of Clovers.
