2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter April 11th to 15th, 2016 Volume 19, Issue 31 N Tuesday Monday We wrote our ‘weekend news’. We greeted classmates, said the pledge of allegiance, said our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days’ and ‘Months’ songs, subitized to 1-12 dots, read our popcorn words, did our ABC chart, sang our vowel song and reviewed our habits of thinkers. We practiced for our upcoming program. Our kindergartner of the week shared his/her poster and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We learned that good readers ask questions as they read. We did shared reading and read This is a Sunflower by Donald Crews. We learned our new popcorn word ‘an’ and did rainbow writing of it. We did literacy workshop. We read A Plant Grows, All About Plants, How Does a Plant Grow? and Do Animals Live in Plants. We were introduced to our new poem ‘I Wrote a Story’. We made a card for Mrs. Hastings for National Library Week. We did shared reading and read Force and Motion and The Way Things Move. We did two Time for Kids –All About Energy and Cool Robots. We did addition using number lines. We did a ladybug vertical addition activity. We greeted friends, sang My Country ‘Tis of Thee, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC charts with digraphs and reviewed the habits of thinkers. We practiced for our program. Our kindergartner of the week shared a science image and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We did shared reading and answered questions from the story such as who?, where?, when? and what? We read How Many Seeds? and I’m a Little Seed. We did literacy workshop. We did shared reading and read My Car. We had recess. We made our own dashboard and steering wheel. Wednesday Thursday We used our popcorn word in our writing. We greeted one another, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words. We did ‘Action Alphabet’ and practiced for our program. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week brought in something for us to estimate and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We did shared reading and answered questions from the story. We read Over in the Garden. We sequenced the lines of our poem. We did literacy workshop. We read School Bus by Donald Crews and I’m Your Bus. We had recess. We used a number line to visually see how addition yields larger numbers and subtraction yields smaller numbers. We greeted classmates, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We did our blend cards and reviewed habits of thinkers. We practiced for our program. Our kindergartner of the week shared something for social studies and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. Then we each wrote our own sentence about him/her. The PM class had library. We did shared reading and answered questions about the story. We read Flowers. We did Literacy Workshop. We read, highlighted the popcorn words in and illustrated our poem. We read Truck by Donald Crews and followed simple geometric directions to draw a truck. We had recess. We were introduced to creating unifix cubes combinations of 3 and 4. Friday We practiced writing our first and last name in D’Nealian handwriting. We greeted each other, said the pledge of allegiance and our class pledge and did calendar. We counted on from three different numbers, read our popcorn words, reviewed our habits of thinkers and practiced for our program. We had Family Friday. We highlighted the popcorn words in and read ‘There Were Three’. We read Growing Up Buckeye in preparation for the Spring Game. We did shared reading and read Mighty Machines. We planted lima beans and put them in the OSE greenhouse. We had recess. We collaborated in groups to make all of the combinations of four with unifix cubes.
