2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter February 29th to March 4th, 2016 Volume 19, Issue 26 N Monday Tuesday We wrote weekend news. We greeted classmates, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days’ and ‘Months’ songs, subitized to 1-12 dots, read our popcorn words, did our ABC chart, sang our vowel song and reviewed our habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week shared his/her poster and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We learned our new popcorn word ‘up’ and did rainbow writing of it. We learned that good readers make predictions. We made predictions before reading Arthur’s Underwear by Marc Brown. We also graphed our predictions about whether March will come in like a lion or a lamb. We were introduced to our new poem ‘Leprechaun, Leprechaun’. The AM class did literacy workshop and watched ‘Geena’s Tremendous Tooth Adventure’. The PM class had library and watched an interview with Marc Brown. We had recess. We heard more Newsminutes presentations. We did our final living/nonliving activity. We greeted our friends, read and sang America the Beautiful, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC charts with digraphs and reviewed the habits of thinkers. We checked our prediction from yesterday about March coming in like a lion or a lamb. We read Living Things Are Everywhere! Our kindergartner of the week shared a science image. We wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We wrote about the science image in our writing books. We read Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss, our March author. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We read Wind! , did shared reading and made paper kites. We did literacy workshop. The AM class had recess. We solved our mystery number and did McDonald’s French fry addition. The PM class did monster eye addition. Wednesday The morning class began with monster eye addition. The PM class began by writing a sentence using our popcorn word. We greeted one another, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words. We did ‘Action Alphabet’. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week brought in something for us to estimate and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. We sequenced the lines of our poem. Mrs. Williams was our guest reader for Dr. Seuss’s birthday. She read Horton Hears a Who! We did literacy workshop. The morning class did an activity sheet using the popcorn word ‘up’. We read Investigate Sound and we explored various musical instruments and how they produce sound. We determined our mystery number and we did ladybug addition. Thursday We greeted classmates, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We did blend cards and reviewed habits of thinkers. Our kindergartner of the week shared something for social studies and we wrote a sentence about him/her using interactive writing. Then we wrote a sentence about her independently. We predicted what might happen before we read Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. We read, highlighted the popcorn words in and illustrated our poem. We did literacy. The AM class had library. The PM class read Music Is In the Air and made our own musical instruments. Friday We started off with four bean addition. We had Family Friday. We greeted each other, sang ‘America the Beautiful’, said our class pledge and did calendar. We counted on from three different numbers, read our popcorn words and reviewed our habits of thinkers. We highlighted the popcorn words in and read ‘Look Up! We did shared reading and read Country Mouse, City Mouse. The AM class read Music Is In the Air and made musical instruments. The PM class had library. We practiced writing our first and last names in D’Nealian handwriting. We did fitness.
