2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter February 22nd to 26th, 2016 Volume 19, Issue 25 N Tuesday Monday The morning class began with a living and nonliving sorting activity. We greeted classmates, sang ‘Grand T Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days’ and ‘Months’ songs, subitized to 1-12 dots, read our popcorn words, did our ABC chart, sang our vowel song and reviewed our habits of thinkers. We learned our new popcorn word ‘for’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read Arthur Babysits by Marc Brown. We learned how sound boxes help us read and write words. We were introduced to our new poem ‘Mr. Wind’. We did literacy workshop. We read Our First President in honor of George Washington’s birthday. The PM class visited the book fair. We did shared reading and read Oh, the Things You Can Do That Are Good For You! We heard another Newsminutes presentation. We found our mystery number. We read Domino Addition and introduced to addition by adding different combinations of boys and girls. Wednesday We did domino addition, greeted one another, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words. We did ‘Action Alphabet’. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. We read Arthur’s Tooth by Marc Brown. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We worked on writing an opinion. We sequenced the lines of our poem. We did literacy workshop. We read Moose’s Loose Tooth. We heard Newsminutes presentations. We read Loud, Soft, High and Low Sounds. The afternoon class did ‘Let’s Make 10’ to practice addition in math. We began by showing our understanding of healthy habits by illustrating our health plans. We greeted our friends, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC charts with digraphs. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. We watched a Reader’s Theater performance by Mrs. Whipple’s third graders. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We read Duck! Rabbit! as an introduction to opinion writing. We had a few more Newsminutes presentations. We read Monkey Not Ready for Kindergarten by Marc Brown. We did literacy workshop. We did shared reading and read I Know Why I Brush My Teeth and learned the proper way to brush. We figured out our mystery number and did more examples of domino addition. We read Sound and Hearing. The AM class began doing ‘Let’s Make 10’. The PM class did a living and not living sort. We greeted classmates, sang ‘Grand Old Flag’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We did blend cards and reviewed habits of thinkers. We heard Newsminutes presentations. We read Arthur Lost and Found by Marc Brown. We read, highlighted the popcorn word in and illustrated our poem. We highlighted the popcorn words in, illustrated and read our poem. We highlighted and read ‘They Look’. We read Wibble Wobble. We had Guidance. The AM class visited the book fair. The PM class watched Geena’s Tremendous Tooth Adventure. All participants will be recognized, the winning students will advance to the regional level at Tolles Career & Technical Center. This is a great opportunity for students to develop and enhance critical thinking skills through invention, innovation and entrepreneurship.
