APRIL 25TH-29TH Sunshine Smiles Reading Workshop Question/Answer Books This week, the SUNSHINES continued to work on different formats of Question/Answer Books. During writing conferences, we talked about adding interesting words and additional facts to support our topic. The kids loved sharing their books! Check out the learning that is radiating from the SUNSHINE room this week! Themes of the Week: * Question/ Answer Books Reading and Writing “Question/Answer” Books The SUNSHINES learned about energy, motion, and friction. The kids were put into collaborative teams to design, create, and experiment with materials in preparation in making their Marble Mazes. * New Word Wall Words * Math Review Games * *STEM ProjectsMarble Mazes Words of the Week: jump, must, cute, cube, let’s, crawl, June, *Focus on long and short “u” Collaboratively Designing Marble Mazes 1 Science/Social Studies/Health Reading * Throughout this week, the SUNSHINES continued * * We finished our chapter book read aloud to dig deeper into learning about motion and energy. They experimented with all types of materials to see results of energy, motion, and friction. (My Father’s Dragon). The kids completed a reading response to show their thinking. They wrote about their favorite characters and part of the story along with connections and their thoughts on the author’s message. * The Sunshines worked in teams to design, create, and construct MARBLE MAZES! They had to come up with a “blueprint” with corners, traps, “dead ends,” a start, and a finish. They worked together to build their maze and experimented with how objects move in a variety of ways. After exploring all of the mazes, the SUNSHINES wrote about what they observed. * We continue to work on comprehending texts by sharing our thinking. Practice retelling stories at home with details in sequential order, language from the stories, and character names. Math * Writing * The SUNSHINES finished writing their very own * The SUNSHINES continued to participate Question/Answer books. WOW! They were impressive. A rubric that assess how your child did on this fun writing will be coming home soon. review games throughout the week. The topics that we continue to review include: addition, subtraction, fractions, graphing, solving story problems, telling time, using a hundreds chart, working with bigger numbers, rich problems, and mental math. * We began to write WORDLES (highlighting descriptive and interesting words). Technology We published a class book of poetry and started on WORDLES! * * UPCOMING EVENTS AND REMINDERS * SAVE THE DATE: The SUNSHINE SHOWCASE (end of the year celebration for families) will be on Friday, May 27th at 10:00 in the classroom. * Pinney Movie Night is Friday, April 29th at 6:00 p.m. in the commons. * Parent Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast is May 4th at 9:30 in the commons. If you volunteered in any way throughout this school year (donations, chaperone for field trip, memory book helper, party planner or helper, etc.), you are invited!
