MAY 2ND-6TH Sunshine Smiles Reading Workshop Question/Answer Books This week, the SUNSHINES put extra love in their writings by creating a MOTHER’S DAY book! They wrote all about their moms (why they love her, favorite place to go with her, favorite thing to do with her, and even created a poem about her). HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! The SUNSHINES created a sunflower from their fingers and thumbs as a wonderful memory and gift for MOTHER’S DAY! They also created a card with a poem using a variety of art materials. Themes of the Week: * MAP Testing * Mother’s Day * Math Review Games * *STEM ProjectsMarble Runs Words of the Week: review Mother’s Day Projects Mother’s Day Books 1 Science/Social Studies/Health Reading * Throughout this week, the SUNSHINES * * We continue to read fiction stories and collaborated, designed, and constructed their very own MARBLE RUNS! As they built their MARBLE RUNS, they continuously had to test their ideas. They were required to have turns, a drop, and a start and finish. Many groups challenged themselves to build in obstacles, loops, curves, and even funnels! creating reading responses based on our favorite characters, favorite parts, author’s message, connections, and more! * We began the end of the year reading assessments. Please continue to work on reading for fun at home. * * We practiced our reading stamina with our * independent reading practice. * * Writing Math * The SUNSHINES continued to participate * The SUNSHINES finished writing their very own review games throughout the week. The topics that we continue to review include: addition, subtraction, fractions, graphing, solving story problems, telling time, using a hundreds chart, working with bigger numbers, rich problems, and mental math. MOTHER’S DAY books. They practiced reading them for fluency to share with their families. We can’t wait to share them with you! * We finished and published our WORDLES! These fun writing projects highlighted descriptive words and our interests! Technology We published a class book of poetry and started on WORDLES! * We began our end of the year word study assessments. UPCOMING EVENTS AND REMINDERS * * SAVE THE DATE: The SUNSHINE SHOWCASE (end of the year celebration for * families) will be on Friday, May 27th at 9:30-11:00 in the commons/classroom. * Timelines are due tomorrow, May 6th. Thank you for helping at home! * Tomorrow, Friday, May 6th is SPIRIT DAY. Have your SUNSHINE wear RED, WHITE, and BLUE to school this day. * The Book Fair is now open through next Thursday, May 12th.
