APRIL 4TH-8TH Sunshine Smiles Reading Workshop POETRY Nonfiction Posters This week, the SUNSHINES were immersed in POETRY! They had many opportunities to read different types of poems written by poets of all ages. We read each poem several times to encourage mental pictures, connections, and notices. We brainstormed topics that we could transfer into WRITING WORKSHOP. The SUNSHINES worked as collaborative teams to become an expert on a nonfiction texts. They were actively engaged in “EXPLORE TIME” throughout the week to raise awareness and experiment with reusing materials. learned about all types of poetry through live examples from kids their age. We also read several mentor texts and magazines that highlight different styles of poems. We talked about onomatopoeia and how to add interesting words to our poems during Writing Workshop. Math * We continue to work on responding to texts * The SUNSHINES were involved in many graphing materials throughout the week. They reviewed all types of graphs including: line graphs, bar graphs (horizontal and vertical, pictographs, tally graphs, and pie graphs. With a collaborative partner, they designed a question, collected data, and shared their results based on a graph of their interest. and making connections. Writing * We used what we learned from reading workshop and poetry to experiment with writing poems. The SUNSHINES generated ideas and practice rereading their work to check for errors. They talked with their ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNERS to get their opinion on any interesting words that they could add. * We continue to reinforce fractions, telling time, addition/subtraction story problems, using a hundreds chart, identifying hundreds/ tens/ones, and more through number routines and partner games. Technology * We continue to really target accuracy with writing We continue to use the high frequency words. OSMO to reinforce math and literacy skills. * We practiced our new word study words with a variety of activities throughout the week. See if your SUNSHINE can spell these words correctly. * UPCOMING EVENTS AND REMINDERS * The Time with Teacher Raffle begins on April 5th.
