College of Arts and Sciences Committee on Academic Programs (ASCAP)
Minutes for Meeting of September 26, 2011
A scheduled meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, September 26 at 3:00 p.m. in Holden Hall 129.
Committee members present were: Ken Baake, Erin Collopy, Art Durband, David Lamp, Chris Monico,
Philip Pope, and David Roach. Presenters: Drs. Cohen and Garos (Psychology), Drs. McBee and Hahn,
(History), Dr. Lowe (Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work), and Drs. Pearce and Neusel
(Mathematics and Statistics).
1.
The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Psychology, pending minor revisions:
Title change for PSY 5306 Seminar in Contemporary Professional Issues.
2.
The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of History:
Title and description change for HIST 4324 Courts and Capitalism.
3.
The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work, pending revisions and content outline for the syllabus:
Add SW 1300 The Why and How of Social Services.

The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposals from the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work, pending minor revisions:
Add SW 1300 The Why and How of Social Services to the list of courses that fulfill the
Individual and Group Behavior requirement of the Core Curriculum.
Add SW 1300 The Why and How of Social Services to the list of courses that fulfill the
Multicultural requirement of the Core Curriculum.
5.
The committee voted against recommending approval for the following proposal from the
Department of Mathematics:
Add MATH 4201 Llano Estacado Competition.
6.
The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Mathematics:
Add MATH 4202 Putnam Competition.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of ASCAP is scheduled for Monday, October 17, for proposals that reach the committee and the Dean’s office by Monday, October 10. Please note: Starting this semester,
ASCAP will begin accepting hard or electronic copies of course proposal submissions.
