College of Arts and Sciences Committee on Academic Programs (ASCAP) Minutes for Meeting of March 8, 2010 A scheduled meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, March 8 at 3:00 p.m. in Holden Hall 129. Committee members present were: Jim Clopton, Greg Gellene, Ram Iyer, Jerry Koch, Rich Rice, Anthony Qualin, Philip Pope, and David Roach. Presenters were: Roger Lichti (Physics), Mark Webb and Howard Curzer (Philosophy), Fred Suppe and Dale Griffee (Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures), Randy McBee, Ron Milam, and Abigail Swingen (History), Harold Gurrola and Hua-wei Zhou (Geosciences), and Klaus Becker, Terry von Ende, and Timothy Hubbard (Economics & Geography). 1. The committee voted to table the following proposals from the Department of Physics, pending additional information: • Add ASTR 1100 Astronomy Laboratory Science • Add PHYS 1100 Physics Laboratory Science 2. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Philosophy: • PHIL 5125 Introduction to Research Ethics 3. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposals from the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures: • Add GERM 1607 Intensive German Review • Add GERM 2607 Intensive German Second Year • Change Description: ESL 5310 English for Classroom Management; Add repeatable up to 12 hrs. 4. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposals from the Department of History: • Add HIST 4351 Origins of the British Empire • Add HIST 3333 United States in the Second World War 5. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal from the Department of Geosciences: • Change title and description of GEOL 3301 Geomorphology and Aerial Photointerpretation 6. The committee voted to table the following proposals from the Department of Geosciences pending additional information: • Add G PH 5303 Seismic Data Analysis • Add G PH 5305 Velocity Model Building • Add G PH 5307 Seismic Migration • Change credit hours for G PH 5321 Advanced Seismic Exploration Methods • Change credit hours for G PH 5323 Advanced Electrical Methods 7. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposals from the Department of Economics and Geography: • Add ECO 3325 Special Topics in Applied Economics • Add ECO 5319 Advanced Topics in Environmental Economics The next regularly scheduled meeting of ASCAP is scheduled for Monday, April 12, for proposals that reach the committee and the Dean’s office by Monday, April 5.
