Cook OF HISTORICAL NOTE!!!!!!! Dear Parishioners, I recently received a copy of a letter dated November 5th, 1926. The letter was from then William Cardinal O’Connell, Archbishop of Boston. It was addressed to the president of Boston College, James H. Dolan S.J. and reads: Dear Father Dolan: The following is to be read at all the Masses in Boston College Chapel, Chestnut Hill, on Sunday November 7th. With the consent of the Sacred Congregation of the Council I have established that section of the Archdiocese of Boston herein St. Ignatius Parish, in charge of the Jesuit Fathers of Boston College with boundaries as follows…. This goes into effect today, November 7th, 1926 Here we are on November 7th 2010, eighty-four years to the date of the founding of the parish. When those “new parishioners” first gathered in the chapel of Boston College, could they have ever been able to imagine the beautiful church built more than 20 years later which has been a sacred space of prayer, worship and community for so many! Could they have ever imagined the multitude of people within and without the parish “boundaries” who call St. Ignatius their parish and spiritual home? Could they have ever imagined the vibrancy, dedication, and generosity of St. Ignatius parishioners 84 years later? Thanks be to God for their dedication which created the foundation for such a beautiful church and parish community! On this Sunday, 84 years after the founding of the parish, I want to express my gratitude to you for your continued support of St. Ignatius. Within the next weeks you will be hearing again about our Annual Pledge Program that sustains our ministry. I hope and pray that you will be as generous in the support of the parish in the coming year as you have always been. Sincerely, Fr Bob 1. The book They Come Back Singing: Finding God With the Refugees by the Jesuit Gary Smith is described by one reviewer as follows: Where do you go after two decades of working with poor and homeless people, inmates and the mentally ill living in low-income hotels? For Smith, a Jesuit priest and author of Radical Compassion, the answer was to follow God's call to work and live with some of the most disadvantaged people in the world, the Sudanese refugees living in Uganda. This book is a record of his six years in two refugee camps as priest and administrator. 2. OUTREACH MINISTRIES MORE KNITTING NEEDLES AND YARN WOULD BE GREAT!
