P ARTICIPANTS N EEDED FOR R ESEARCH

S TUDY We invite you to participate in the

"Talking About Social Controversies" (T.A.S.C.) project, a national research study exploring how

Americans think about important issues our society is grappling with today. Many of these issues have been the subject of major news coverage and political debate. However, we are interested in the opinions and viewpoints of everyday American citizens, not media or political elites. Participating in this research project involves being in a focus group with 5-10 other individuals. You and the other members will be asked to share your thoughts on a social issue like genetic engineering, discussion will take about 90 minutes and will be held at St.

Ignatius Church. As a token of appreciation for your time, you will receive $20.00. If you would like to participate in this research project, please email your name and contact information to

Kyle Green at green894@umn.edu.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES

SIGN-UPS HAVE BEGUN for the Saturday, July 16th Shattuck Summer

Cookout. Materials to sign up to donate food, cash (to purchase bulk items) or donate time at kitchen prep or serving are on the Outreach table.

COR UNUM MEAL CENTER : We have committed to serving dinner at Cor Unum Meal Center in Lawrence on these Saturday nights –

July 23rd and August 20th. If you/your family members would like to be on a serving crew, contact Sr. Diane at 617-552-6107 or vallerio@bc.edu. Children may accompany parents and serve, but they should be at least ten years of age.

SHATTUCK FOURTH TUESDAY: We continue our ministry to the

Guests at hopeFound’s Shattuck Shelter all through the summer months, so there is a need for servers (must be 18 years of age) and for desserts on July 26th and August 23rd. If you’re interested in being a part of this outreach effort, call Sr. Diane at 617-552-6107.

THANK YOU for your generosity in our food drive to help stock the Newton

Food Pantry. All food pantries are grateful for whatever help they can get during the lean summer months, so you are encouraged to continue to support your local pantry in whatever way you can.

I NFORMATION ABOUT THE A RTS -B ASED P ROGRAM

The ABP operates from a pedagogy which is experiential. In order to make it work, for both catechists and children, the class size needs to be such that all involved will receive the instruction and attention they deserve. In order to be fair to all of the families who are involved, we need to limit the number of children who are able to register to 60. One of the requirements for participating in this program will be attendance at the retreat (October 21-23). It is NOT a requirement to stay overnight at the retreat. If you were NOT a participant in the program last year (2010-2011), you are required to meet with Amy Chapman prior and in order to register for this program.
