J EREMY C LARKS , S.J. This year marks the 400 th anniversary of the death of legendary Jesuit missionary Matteo Ricci in Bejing. Two
Jesuits, Jeremy Clarke, S.J. and Jim McDermott S.J., took their backpacks, a tripod and a camera and traveled throughout China retracing the steps of this fascinating proponent of cross-cultural exchange.
Fr. Clarke, who wrote, produced and directed the film will answer questions after the program. All are invited.

Join us on Sunday, October 31 st after the Noon Mass to celebrate one of the most significant days of
Hispanic culture - The Day of the Dead. This tradition, which is celebrated throughout the Hispanic world on November 2 nd , dates back from centuries before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, and consists of paying respect to the ancestors and those departed in a very religious and prayerful way. All visible signs during the feast (flowers, candles, music and food) celebrate the life and the heritage of those who helped us to become who we are. Following the traditions, our Hispanic community will build an
Altar de Muertos and will include a procession of people dressed in their traditional clothing outside the church, if the weather allows. We hope you can join us in this enriching cultural event.
All are welcome to join a discussion in the rectory at 11:15 on
Sunday, November 21st. The book They Come Back Singing: Finding God With the
Refugees by the Jesuit Gary Smith is described by one reviewer as follows: Where do you go after two decades of working with poor and homeless people, inmates and the mentally ill living in low-income hotels? For Smith, a Jesuit priest and author of Radical Compassion , the answer was to follow God's call to work and live with some of the most disadvantaged people in the world, the Sudanese refugees living in
Uganda. This book is a record of his six years in two refugee camps as priest and administrator.
