This service of music, dance, readings and reflections is the work of Fr. Bob VerEecke, S.J., choreographer and Michael Burgo, Director of Music Ministry. It will feature the music of Cristóbal Fones, Dan Schutte, Bernadette Farrell, Jaime Cortez and Michael Burgo. Given the different musical idioms, the service will be bilingual in Spanish and English. Jesus Our Way, Jesus Our Light is uniquely beautiful in its integration of prayer, music and dance. It is appropriate for children, youth and adults of all ages. We hope you will join us. THE EXAMEN During this Lenten season, there will be an Examination of Consciousness following communion. The “Examen” is at the heart of Ignatian prayer and we hope that this Spiritual Exercise during Lent will enrich your prayer and reflection. The Examen questions for the Fourth Sunday of Lent are listed below. The Fifth Sunday of Lent In the tradition of Ignatius, we open our hearts and minds to God’s loving guidance in the spirit of Jesus Christ. Together, let us examine our lives with God as our guide and Jesus walking beside us. Lord, we realize that everything, even ourselves, is a gift from you. Where is God’s spirit alive and dwelling in you? Lord, open our eyes and ears to be more honest with ourselves. How does your humanness prevent you from living fully in the spirit? Lord, show us what has been happening to us and in us this day. In what ways is God raising you to new life? Lord, we are still learning to grow in your love. In which aspects of your life does Jesus weep for you? Lord, let us look with longing toward the future. How can you set aside your own plans and desires to walk with Jesus more closely during your Lenten Journey? 1. PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN PROGRAM The Archdiocese of Boston requires all church volunteers (in whatever capacity) to complete a training program in child abuse prevention. If you are a new volunteer in any St. Ignatius ministry, you must be able to verify your attendance at a Protecting God’s Children (PGC) program. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the appropriate supervisor of your ministry. St. Ignatius will sponsor its last program until fall on Sunday, May 1st , 2011, from 3:00 to 5:30 PM in the Choir/Media room of the lower church. If you are planning to attend this session of Protecting God’s Children, you must register by April 15th. Please inform the St. Ignatius Office (Betty McLaughlin @ 617-552-6102 or ignatius@bc.edu) if you plan on attending. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe and secure atmosphere for all children at St. Ignatius pari SUPPORT FOR THE WORK OF THE JESUITS IN SOUTHERN SUDAN The collection which will be taken up on Holy Thursday will be directed to the work of the Jesuits in Southern Sudan which will become an independent country this July. The cover of next week’s bulletin will show a picture of an offertory at St. Joseph's Parish, Lutaya for a special celebration. The request for support comes from Fr. Kevin White, S.J. who is working there. The following is in Fr. Kevin’s own words: “Requests that come to me all the time are for school fees, hospital fees, medical expenses, strengthening the infrastructure of our local church and homes, need for bibles, rosaries, shoes, eyeglasses, books and food, as well as helping someone in some crisis. The latest example of a ‘crisis’ would be yesterday’s request for assistance from a young (25 or so) husband and father and member of our church’s choir who lost his hut to a fire two nights ago. No life was lost, for which we are grateful, but everything else was: beds, clothes, documents, utensils, water containers, etc.” “THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU” – On all the Wednesdays of Lent from 6:30 – 8:00 pm, St. Ignatius and all the parishes of the Archdiocese will be open for individual confessions. Inviting Catholics to experience Christ’s healing love through the Sacrament of Reconciliation is one of the major initiatives of Cardinal Sean and the Archdiocese. A website has been set up www.theLightIsOnForYou.org to help you prepare. BOOK DISCUSSION – On Sunday, April 17th, ST.
