THANK YOU
To our Arts and Environment Committee
that designed and created the beautiful floral arrangements.
To all the singers and instrumentalists who filled the church with the sounds of
beautiful music.
To the members of the Liturgy Committee coordinators and Liturgical Ministers
who served so faithfully throughout the Triduum.
To the members of the Hospitality Commission who provided the wonderful reception
following Easter Vigil.
To all who shared their time and talents to make this Easter such a wonderful
expression of divine and human love.
THE PARISH RETREAT AT EASTERN POINT IN GLOUCESTER is scheduled for June 4th – 6th.
are aware that the month of June is a particularly busy one for people.
We
If you are
interested in coming to the retreat it would be helpful if you could call the rectory (617552-6102) now to register so that we can plan accordingly. We hope that you can take
advantage of this opportunity for personal renewal and refreshment. In particular, if you
have never experienced a retreat or if it’s been a long time since your last one, we especially invite you to
join us. The cost of the weekend is $200 with all meals included.
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY - In the year 2000, during the canonization of the early 20th century Sr.
Faustina of Poland, Pope John Paul II established the Sunday after Easter as a feast dedicated to Divine
Mercy. May we continue to grow in our trust of God's boundless mercy and the healing power of
forgiveness.

along with the dancers of the Boston Liturgical Dance Ensemble. As part of the evening celebration, we

Dance Studio. Contact Fr. Bob for more information. Workshop donation $15.00.
APRIL 15TH IS NOT JUST TAX DAY, IT’S “PASTA AND PRAYER” DAY
With taxes behind you, what better way to refuel than with fellow parishioners for a conversation about
the Sevenfold Gifts of the Spirit and a simple pasta supper? Don’t know what the seven gifts are, are
wondering how to use them, or perhaps you are able to share how you have incorporated them into your
life? These are all good reasons to attend the April session of Pasta and Prayer, being held on Thursday,
April 15th from 6:30 – 8:30 PM in the Friary Room. Space is limited and reservations are required so that
we can plan accordingly. Contact Amy Larson at 781-929-1835 by Tuesday, April 13th to reserve your
chair at the table.

STRENGTH IN WHAT REMAINS: A PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION
Deo Niyizonkiza, who founded a small non-profit called Village Health Works (http://villagehealthworks.org)
which does work in Burundi, will be giving a talk at St. Ignatius about his work and experiences. Village Health
Works is working with community members in the rural village of Kigutu (located approximately 70 miles south of
the capital city of Bujumbura) to develop a model community health center. This health center provides critically
needed primary care to the 40,000 people of Kigutu and the surrounding area. Deo’s work and life are featured in
a recent book by Tracy Kidder (Strength in What Remains, weblink: www.tracykidder.com/books/strength),
very limited copies of which are available without charge in the rectory offices.
Presentation by Deogratias Niyizonkiza and Sarah Broom, VHW Director,
Sunday, April 25, 2010, 4:00 to 5:30 in the Lower Church
YOUNG ADULTS DINNER/DISCUSSION
On May 2nd, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., we will be hosting a dinner presentation and discussion of the book
"From the Pews in the Back: Young Women and Catholicism" (Liturgical Press, 2009) in the Friary Room.
"From the Pews" is a lively and thought-provoking collection of short essays by young women about their
faith. This gathering is open to both women and men and young and not-so-young adults. You don't
need to read the book in advance of attending, but we can help you obtain a copy if you would like. To
ensure there's enough food, please RSVP to Jerry at sloang@bc.edu or 617-552-6105. Jerry will be
handling the cooking, but please come in spite of this.
AUDITIONS FOR CHORAL DRAMA, MISSIONARIES
This fall at St. Ignatius, there will be a production of the choral drama Missionaries by Elizabeth Swados in
honor of the 30th anniversary of the martyrdom of Jean Donovan, Ita Ford, Maura Clarke and Dorothy
Kazel in El Salvador for their work with the poor and for human rights/social justice. Auditions for this
special concert will take place on April 9th from 7:00 – 9:00 pm and April 10th from 9:00 – 11:00 am at the
McElroy building (Boston College) room 213.
Please see www.missionariesboston.org for details.
