ARRUPE: HELP FOR FAMILIES FLEEING PERSECUTION
The Church stands in solidarity with refugee families around the world, accompanying
them, providing education, pastoral care, advocacy, and assistance in resettlement. This is
the ministry of the Jesuit Refugee Service, the USCCB Migration and Refugee Services and many other Church
organizations.
This is also the ministry of the ARRUPE group at St. Ignatius parish. On the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd
ARRUPE members will be collecting at the door after each liturgy to fund their refugee support activities.
Support ARRUPE:
•
Pray for refugees and those who assist them
•
Contribute to the ARRUPE collection at St. Ignatius parish June 2nd or 3rd.
•
Join ARRUPE (Assisting Refugee Resettlement Using Parish Energies)

Dear Parishioners,
I hope you had an opportunity to hear the witness of the newly Confirmed that spoke at many of the liturgies on
Sunday, the 29th of April. It was so uplifting to hear these young people articulate how their faith has grown
through their participation in the life of the parish community. If you didn't hear them, their talks will be on the
website and you can read them for yourselves.
One of the elements that is such an important part of the faith formation of these young people has been the service
programs in which they engage. For the past few years, groups of young parishioners have taken part in service
trips to Camden, New Jersey, where they have a first-hand encounter with poverty and the challenges that face
people who are economically disadvantaged. In addition to the Camden trip, some of our youth will be going to
Tacna Peru with Amy Chapman and Dan Robb to work in the Cristo Rey School there. I am sure that this will be a
life-changing experience for those who are going.
In order to make these trips financially viable, there will be a number of fund-raising events in the next weeks and
months. I am already grateful for the support that I know you give to facilitate these important journeys in faith.
Speaking of fund-raising, we are beginning one for the St. Anne's Parish Playground. You'll read about it in today's
bulletin and will have heard about it in today's liturgies from Sr. Telasia who works in the parish. I think it's
especially appropriate that we are beginning this effort on Mother's Day, since the primary purpose of the park is
to provide a safe and beautiful place for mothers with young children.
And not to overwhelm you with requests....... With the recent translations of prayers in the liturgy and the less
recent changes in the lectionary, we have decided to purchase new Worship 4 hymnals for the upstairs church. The
cost to the parish for the hymnals, with the readings and prayers as well as choir editions, will come to $9,000. If
anyone has recently won the lottery and would like to make a memorial gift, we would be eternally grateful and
the choir would sing your praises. In fact, we could arrange for a month of your favorite hymnody :-) Seriously, we
will be grateful for whatever you can contribute to the 4 Worship 4 Fund. More of the specifics to come.
Gratefully,
Fr. Bob
