Cunniff 5:30 Alfred & Genevieve Wasilauskas Dear Parishioners , This past Saturday, I celebrated First Eucharist for forty-five young parishioners. The week before there were thirty five children. This weekend, children from our Latino community will receive their First Eucharist. One of the things that I mention to the children is that, although this is the first time they receive the body and blood of Christ, it's really not their first communion. The church teaches us that every time we come to the Eucharist we are in communion with the body of Christ. (that's You!) So even if they haven't known it, they have been receiving communion with Christ in the Word and in the assembly of God's people! (Yes, I know that sounds abstract!) So, let me move from the abstract to the concrete. I speak specifically of our relationship with Boston College. As a diocesan parish which began on the campus of BC, our history has always been intimately interwoven with that of the University. The pastoral needs of both have grown enormously. We are grateful for all the support that we receive from the University, as they are for the services we offer their students, faculty, staff and alumni. But with growth come challenges, especially trying to balance the needs of both communities. For this reason, I am happy to announce that we have hired Paul Melley as Assistant to the Pastor and Parish/University Liaison. Paul comes to us from The College of the Holy Cross where he has worked as Director of Liturgical Music and Campus Minister for the past ten years. I'm looking forward to working with Paul as he assists us in finding the balance between parish and University ministry Another challenge that we face at St. Ignatius is PARKING. There is no longer parking available behind Thomas More since BC will be tearing it down. Since you are a "regular" at St. Ignatius, I would urge you to get to the church early and use the parking lot across from the garage. (There is a $5 charge in the garage) There is also parking adjacent to the STM building on Lake Street. Take an immediate right on Lake Street, go up the driveway. There are parking spaces there that we can use. University officials are concerned about parking on both sides of Thomas More Drive. This is creating safety and traffic problems. I do hope that the liturgy we celebrate together is worth the walk and the few extra minutes it takes to arrive at Church in a timely fashion. I wish you all the blessings of these days that reveal God's infinite love for us in Jesus Christ. Sincerely, Fr. Bob 1. Sunday., M ay 18 th THIS W EEK’S CALLENDAR Book Group – 2 nd fl.
