ARRUPE: HELP FOR FAMILIES FLEEING PERSECUTION
The Church stands in solidarity with refugee families around the world,
accompanying them, providing education, pastoral care, advocacy, and
assistance in resettlement. This is the ministry of the Jesuit Refugee Service, the USCCB
Migration and Refugee Services and many other Church organizations.
This is also the ministry of the ARRUPE group at St. Ignatius parish. On the weekend of June
2nd and 3rd ARRUPE members will be collecting at the door after each liturgy to fund their
refugee support activities.
Support ARRUPE:
•
Pray for refugees and those who assist them
•
Contribute to the ARRUPE collection at St. Ignatius parish June 2nd or 3rd.
•
Join ARRUPE (Assisting Refugee Resettlement Using Parish Energies)

SUMMER SERVICE TRIPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH
This summer, thirty-three of our high school youth will be participating in service/immersion trips
to learn more about themselves, others, and social justice.
TACNA, PERÚ - July 23rd – August 5th Eight of our young parishioners will be traveling with two St.
Ignatius Staff members to Tacna, a city in southern Perú, to live and work with the residents of the
Habitat, a section of the city founded by Jesuits. We will be working with youth and adult members
of the Habitat community to improve private and public spaces in the neighborhood.
CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY - August 13th – 18th , August 20th -25th Twenty-five students, over the course of
two different weeks, will be traveling to the Romero Center, a social justice retreat house in Camden,
NJ. While there, they will live simply in community with peers from other church groups, spending
the days interacting with residents of Camden and the evenings reflecting on their experiences.

BOOK DISCUSSION
There will be a discussion of the book The Angel Esmeralda: Nine Stories written by
Don DeLillo on Sunday, June 24th at 11:15 am in the parish offices. A review in the
Jesuit magazine, America, suggests that Ignatian spirituality permeates much of DeLillo's fiction.
"We see how each subject finds its pitch-perfect expression with DeLillo's truly incarnational sense of
each and every word…. This former Catholic schoolboy deserves the attention of anyone who values
great fiction. He is a master of the art." Come and share your reactions to these stories on June 24th.
INVITATION
Please join the New England Province of Jesuits for the Second Annual Downel Lecture, featuring Fr.
Gregory Boyle, S.J., author of Tatoos on the Heart, and founder of Homeboy Industries. Homeboy
Industries has become a national model for successful gang intervention, a place where former gang
members have a second chance at life.
Date: Tuesday, June 5th at 7:00 p - Boston College High School.
The lecture is free of charge. Space is limited. RSVP to kostiguy@sjnen.org or call 617-607-2800.
IGNATIAN VOLUNTEER CORPS (IVC)

Jesuit tradition.

monthly spiritual reflection.
There are openings now in Boston, Providence, Worcester, and surrounding communities. We also
