Svanemølle Power Station – versatile Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical

Svanemølle Power Station – versatile
and remote controlled thanks to new I&C
Siemens Power & Process Automation (SPPA) Reference
Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical
SPPA-T3000 Control System
SPPA-R3000 Turbine Controls
enable the Danish Svanemølle combined
heat-and-power plant to automate operations
to a high degree. This ensures smooth
production of power and heat while minimizing
operating and maintenance effort and cost.
The Result
SPPA-T3000 and SPPA-R3000
– perfectly matched solutions
from a single source:
■ Improved availability
thanks to powerful data
management with simple
remote monitoring and
diagnosis and rapid
trouble-shooting
■ Enhanced versatility
thanks to integrated
engineering with fast
online adjustments
■ Lower cost thanks to
reduced operating
and maintenance effort
The Plant
The Svanemølle Power Station has been
supplying the district heating network of the
Danish capital of Copenhagen since 1953.
Operated by Dong Energy A/S, the power plant
consists of two peak-load boilers with a rated
output of 135 MJ/s each. The gasoil and naturalgas-fired combined cycle power plant also has a
60 MW gas turbine from Siemens and a 33 MW
steam turbine from Skoda.
The Task
Simple and harmonized control of all power
plant components, also from a remote location
– that was the defined objective of the refurbishment project. Other aims were to improve
the plant's versatility in responding to demand
fluctuations and to enhance availability through
fast trouble-shooting and problem-solving.
Our Solution
The SPPA-T3000 Control system makes it
possible to centralize control and monitoring
of the processes in the Svanemølle Power
Station.
SPPA-R3000, the Siemens instrumentation
and control system for gas and steam turbines
– of all makes – is optimally integrated into the
shared platform. This simplifies remote
monitoring, diagnosis and trouble-shooting for
all turbine components; possible via an internal
Web link.
Fail-safe-systems integrated into SPPA-T3000
permit automatic detection of malfunctions so
as to improve the availability of the
installations.
Individually tailored to the plant, the combination of SPPA-T3000 and SPPA-R3000 provides
a harmonized operator interface and intuitive
control functions. This reduces operating
and maintenance effort and cost and at the
same time simplifies remote control via the
Dong Energy A/S intranet.
This enables the power plant operator to build
up a standardized service organization for
several plants – the cornerstone for a more
efficient and economic production.
„Above all, the simplified
engineering and the harmonized user interface for all
integrated systems make it
easier to run our installations.
We can operate the Svanemølle
Power Station from a control
room 15 km away and still detect
and eliminate any problems
quickly via our internal data
network.”
