Good luck to Tony, he will be competing in our school spelling bee on Tuesday morning at 8:15 A.M. IMPORTANT REMINDERS: January 11—Danny King of the Basement Play (coming to school) This is the play that you all paid $6 for. January 12—Chick Fil A Night 5:00- 8:00 P.M. January 15—Pretzel Day January 18, 19, 20—No School January 28—Report Cards January 28—Math Expo January 29—Box Top turn in January 30—Father/Daughter Dance This week in School: Reading: On Monday the students will be discussing questions about the Play with each other and writing a response to one of the questions in their ELA journal. We will also be working in guided reading groups this week with leveled readers to go along with our story Island of the Blue Dolphin from our Reading Street book. We will have a reading test on Friday. Skill: Theme and setting. Grammar: Independent and dependent clauses. Writing: The student will have a pack to complete that goes with this week’s story. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day we will be discussing civil rights. The students will choose a Civil Rights leader to research and write a summary for their probe. The probe will be due on Friday, January 22, 2016. I have a child friendly link on my webpage under Civil Rights Leaders. Wordly Wise- Lesson 7 test will be on Friday. Please make sure that your child practices their words this week. Math: We are adding and subtracting fractions and working on fraction word problems. Science: We are studying body systems. This week we are learning about the Circulatory System and the Nervous system. Social Studies: This week’s new states are: South Dakota Tennessee Texas Utah Vermont Homework for week of 1-11-2016 Math- Fraction practice Reading- read 20 minutes each night. Please have you child re-read Island of the Blue Dolphin to you to prepare them for their reading test on Friday. Wordly Wise- Test on Friday Science- Study science definitions for 15 minutes a night. We will have a L to J quiz every Friday.
