Mrs. O’Connell’s Parent Newsletter Week of 10-5-2015 Reminders: Please send in Scholastic News payment if you have not done so already. Please send back Field Trip permission slips. Hello, We have our Fitness Fun on Friday from 9:55-10:30. We would love to have some cheerleaders; if any family members want to come watch the children run. Lakeshore is raising money to complete the playground. All of the money from the Fun Run goes to Lakeshore Elementary. Pirate time begins this week from 10:00-10:45 Monday-Thursday. Your child has been place in particular Pirate group depending on their academic needs. IMPORTANT REMINDERS: September 28-Oct 8—Pledge period October 9—Fun Run! 9:55-10:30 October 21—Early Release Day October 29-Field Trip October 30—Teacher Workday This week in School: Reading: The children will continue to read and practice cause and effect with their leveled readers. The children will be presenting their choice probe to the class. We are also reading Scholastic News this week. Spelling: New spelling words go home on Friday. Wordly Wise: The children will be practicing their vocabulary words during Daily Five rotations to prepare themselves for the test on Friday. Writing: The children will be writing about a precept from the book Wonder. Our next probe is due on October 16, 2015. The children will pick a state to research and write about. We will begin learning about states and capitals this week. Math: This week we are reviewing the 4th grade skill, how to multiply multi-digit numbers. Next we will learn how to multiply decimals which is a 5th grade objective. Science: We are continuing to learn about weather. We will have a weather test Thursday, October 8th. Your child has a study guided and a weather notebook they should bring home each night this week to study. Homework for week of 10-5-2015 Math: multiplication Reading: read 20 minutes each night. Vocabulary: Wordly Wise study words for Friday’s test. Writing: State Probe due on Friday, October 16, 2015. Science: The children should study every night for the Weather test on Thursday. A great resource is www.studyisland.com (the children know how to log on and their passwords.)
