Associated Student Government Saddleback College Board of Directors September 13, 2013 10:00AM-11:30 AM SSC 211C Minutes Call to Order Meeting was called to order at 10:04am. Roll Call Approval of the Minutes 1. Minutes – BOD September 6, 2013 Shayan moves to approve the minutes. Maddie seconds. Discussion/Action Public Comments Sarvy- Birthday is tomorrow Officer Reports 1. Committees/Councils 2. Upcoming Events Information Information William- Met with various directors including cafeteria and financial aid. Wants to discuss quality of food, locations of cafeteria, bring in more people to the Fine Arts cafeteria, cleanliness of the dining area, and allergy warnings. Maryam- Had a meeting with Professor Hinkle and talked about the Tutoring website and updating it, want to put up a list of private tutors to get tutored and work as a tutor, the LRC needs more money to provide online services and do this by passing out a survey. Thinking about “Crunch Time” for mid-terms and having restaurants cover to cater and save money. Lily- Went to Outreach committee and family night is Wednesday November 13 from 6-8pm and theme is “Transfer”. Wants to do an ASG workshop during the event. Needs volunteers at 4pm. November 6 is a high–school conference from 7:30am-12pm. Went to Chancellor’s Council meetings and discussed an ATEP building in a few years, VP Kathy Werley liked Student Development’s TED talks. Briana- Came up with a nominations process for “Member of the Month”. Also, revised the minutes template and will be going over bylaws and constitution next week to talk about an Orientation, interpreting positions, differentiating non-voting and voting members, and agenda posts. Lydia- Met with the chairs of Honors Students asking everyone to write a 300 word paper due October 9th on any research done open to students, and will be presented November 16. These conferences look good on resumes. November 23 will be another conference at Whittier College extended out to all students. Honors Student Council will be on Fridays at 11:45am. Mary-Anne Williamson Wants to come to Saddleback College to speak. Hotel Rwanda will be showing tonight at 7:30in the Mckinney Theater. Shayan- Blood Drive reminder: September 24th and 25th. Will have pizza the first night and have the nursing program volunteer. Homecoming is October 19 from 2pm-7pm. The theme for Homecoming is “Spirit”. Decided on a double feature movie night October 30th 5:15 after sunset. Will be voting on movies at next weeks meeting. Shay- ICC had executive meeting yesterday, September 25th from 10am-2pm is “Make a Pledge” the same day as club rush. Also talked about a budget workshop at next all ICC meetings. Officer of Finance election is coming up. Maddie- Started on “Make a Pledge” and blood drive posters. Sarvy- Cooperating with Shayan and Shay at club rush to do a “wishing star jar” and paper cranes for cancer to represent cancer research. Allocated $250 for peer to peer membership. International educations week November ??? Michael- Still recruiting in classes for taskforce. Wants to coordinate with IVC. Created a “Symplicity” group. Jonathon- Budget committee worked on scholarships and wants to do $60,000 for ???? and $10,000 ????. Also working on simplified budget sheets. Bahman- On November 7th and 14th from 10am-12pm wants students to help doing student tours and needs 10 volunteers each day for “Ride the Wave”. Football team is 5th in the nations and volleyball is undefeated. Wants to do an all ASG meeting on October 1st on Tuesday from 2-3pm. When publicizing on campus students can only post on kiosks when not sponsored by the school or ASG. Advisor Reports Audra-Strategic Planning Workshop Friday September 20th. All Student Services meeting on how we can participate in process of Strategic Planning Thursday October 24th from 2pm-3:30. That say is also “Food Day”. Maybe have professors recommend students, 2. Notes Template for ASG members – Dylan Brooks Discussion Passes out a notes template for members serving on committees. It is important for organization and easy for them to present to other committees during officers reports. Use binders as well for better organization and have it highly encouraged on website, email, or tray in ASG office. Debriefing Adjournment Meeting was adjourned at 11:37am.
