Job Description Job Title: Marketing Research Manager Submit Resume to: Recruiting@spe.org SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE Manages the market research program for the western hemisphere. Primary responsibility is to conduct surveys for various programs and report findings back to clients. Works with Marketing Data Manager and Research Manager of the eastern hemisphere to manage the market research program that includes short and long-term research projects, data analysis projects, and reporting to staff and members. Works with accounts management staff to ensure member data, customer data, and campaign metrics are measured, tracked, and reported as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Works with accounts staff and consult with clients to understand their business objectives. Develops corresponding market research projects to ensure relevant data is available for background briefs and marketing strategy planning. Work with marketing team to establish research objectives, define appropriate research methodology, develop research instruments, conduct research, analyze and report results, determine implications and offer recommendations. Provides background data, such as demographic information, about target audiences to accounts staff about the target audiences; may also help identify knowledge gaps. Conducts internal and external surveys, and creates relevant reports and presentations from research efforts. Measures and reports survey response results, and recommends future strategies and tactics. Compiles data from existing internal data sources to compile member demographics, track member behaviors, and profile demographics of event attendees. Carries out competitor research market research and analysis; interprets data from various sources. Creates product reports as needed to provide background. Carries out event surveys for the western hemisphere; calculates and reports CSI scores. Helps establish metrics (such as the Customer Satisfaction Index) that measure the ongoing performance of customer-related projects and support Key Performance Indicator initiatives. Utilize data management and statistical analysis software to extract and develop insights from data. Determine the level of satisfaction with SPE products and services on an ongoing basis, identify new opportunities and make recommendations for improvement. Identify trends in the marketplace and analyze the purchasing behavior of members and customers over time. Meets periodically with other global marketing team members to provide input to overall marketing best practices and strategies, and ensures regional practices support and coordinate with the overall agreed-upon marketing best practices. Obtains cost estimates as needed, tracks committed and actual budget expenditures, and keeps projects on-time and within budget. Assists in establishing methods to tracks ROI on various campaign components, helps evaluate marketing campaign results. May manage outside research firms to supplement quantitative and qualitative research requirements, and providing research services to member sections. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None Job Description JOB SPEICIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing or Behavioral Science and minimum of five years related experience including the management or direction of research projects. An MBA or MSMR is a plus. Exposure to or experience in the oil and gas industry is desirable. Strong ability to formulate questions that accurately address the research issue and compose clear, succinct surveys. Can translate data findings and create effective PowerPoint presentations and concise written research reports that include succinct executive summaries, descriptive narrative, and clear charts and graphs. Can effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. Can establish metrics to track and provide ongoing improvement in market research services. Good people skills; can work with many different people in different departments and functions, local and long distance; keeps projects on schedule; develop alternative plans in the event of potential roadblocks; detail oriented; can manage projects from concept to production, including overseeing schedules and budgets. Able to calculate confidence levels and sample sizes, and use and apply research-related statistical methods such as weighted averages, regression analysis and standard deviation. Can easily solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to apply independent judgment to synthesize large amounts of data into usable information. Has good understanding of performance metrics, and is able to apply findings from research to marketing strategies. Understands and applies marketing principles to research approaches to meet project objectives. Employs strong computer skills (email, Outlook calendar, Internet and intranet environments, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Able to analyze complex data sets to gain insight from them, then present findings effectively in graphical form to allow ease of understanding.
