Emergency Alert System
Fire Alarm Bell/System will ring for all on-campus and off campus evacuations. Students and staff are to report to their designated rally points for attendance and await further direction.
Lock Down/Shelter In Place/Duck & Cover will be announced per the general PA system. In the event that students are outside, the school bell system will ring constant or repeatedly to warn students and staff to seek cover and await announcement.
Parent & Community Alert
School Auto Dialer, Email, Website and local media will be alerted to emergencies as necessary. Teachers and Students should NOT use personal cell phones to alert others until a directed to do so (in order to ensure consistent, correct message is relayed, and it is safe to do so).
Lock Down Procedures
(no movement of students)
This action is taken when the threat of violence or gunfire is identified or directed by law enforcement and it is necessary to prevent the perpetrator(s) from entering occupied areas. During Lock Down, students are to remain in the classrooms or designated locations at all time..
Description of Action
1.
The Principal/Superintendent or Designee will make the following announcement on the PA system. If the PA system is not available, the Principal/Superintendent or Designee will use other means of communication, i.e., sending messengers to deliver instructions.
The Principal/Superintendent or Designee should be calm, convey reassuring comments that the situation is under control and give clear directions.
“YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE: WE HAVE AN EMERGENCY
SITUATION AND NEED TO IMPLEMENT LOCK DOWN
PROCEDURES. TEACHERS ARE TO LOCK CLASSROOM
DOORS AND KEEP ALL STUDENTS INSIDE THE
CLASSROOM UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. DO NOT OPEN
THE DOOR UNTIL NOTIFIED BY AN ADMINISTRATOR OR
LAW ENFORCEMENT. IF OUTSIDE, STUDENTS AND STAFF
ARE TO PROCEED INSIDE THE NEAREST BUILDING OR
CLASSROOM.”
2.
If inside, teachers will instruct students to lie/sit on the floor, lock the doors, and close any shades or blinds if it appears safe to do so.
3.
If outside, students will proceed to their classrooms if it is safe to do so. If not, teachers or staff will direct students into nearby classrooms or school buildings (e.g., auditorium, library, cafeteria, and gymnasium).
4.
Teachers and students will remain in the classroom or secured area until further instructions are given by the Principal/Superintendent or Designee or law enforcement.
5.
The front entrance is to be locked and no visitors other than appropriate law enforcement or emergency personnel, will be allowed on campus.
On – Campus Evacuation Procedures
Fire Alarm Bell will ring for all on-campus and off campus evacuations. Students and staff are to report to their designated rally points for attendance and await further direction.
Rally points include the WEST end parking lot for those closest to the WEST side, and
EAST end parking lot for those closes to the EAST side.
Remember: Check restrooms, teacher leads, lights off when room cleared, doors unlocked when evacuating, walk away from buildings as much as possible, rally and take attendance at the furthest point away from building and driveway, report any students unaccounted for. Students and staff shall remain at quiet attention to await further announcements or ALL CLEAR signal.
Shelter In Place Procedures
(free movement of students within secure area,
shut down HVAC if necessary)
This action is taken to place and/or keep students indoors in order to provide a greater level of protection from airborne contaminants in outside air and/or protect and isolate students and staff from the outdoor environment.
It may be necessary to shut down classroom and/or building HVAC systems if airborne contaminants are present.
Duck and Cover Procedures
This action is taken to protect students and staff from flying or falling debris.
Description of Action
1.
The Principal/Superintendent or Designee will make the following announcement the need for “Duck and Cover” on the PA.
2.
If inside, teachers will instruct students to duck under their desks and cover their heads with their arms and hands.
3.
If outside, teachers will instruct students to move to the nearest safety shelter and cover their heads with their arms and hands.
4.
Teachers and students should move away from windows.
Off Campus Evacuation Procedures
Follow On-Site Evacuation Procedures.
WALK OFF CAMPUS – if necessary all students and staff will walk off campus and rally at Las
Parras (#3939) . Await further direction or ALL CLEAR.
BUS OFF CAMPUS – if necessary all students and staff will walk off campus to the designate rally point and await EPS transportation to the designated rally point at Las Parras (#3939)
Upon arrival as OFF CAMPUS location, take attendance, check-in with designated respondent
and prepare student sign out log (insert student names).
DO NOT RELEASE STUDENTS UNTIL ALL
CLEAR SIGNAL AND STUDENTS ARE
ACCOUNTED FOR AND SIGNED OUT!
All Clear & Reunification Procedures
When it is necessary to Evacuate or Keep students in Lock Down following a major incident, the following procedures will be followed.
Students will not be released until it is safe to do so.
All staff should await official announcements and “ALL CLEAR” signal PRIOR to releasing any students.
Homeroom teachers will be responsible for accounting for all students (Taking Attendance
& Filling in the Emergency Sign Out Roster)
Support staff will be responsible for assisting in centralized sign-out.
All staff are to remain on campus (or off site location), until ALL students are accounted for, or released by the administrator in charge.
All staff are required to summit Incident
Reports / Attendance / Sign Out Sheets prior to being dismissed.
Staff may be required to debrief with
Administrator after Reunification is complete.
