ASUW JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: CATEGORY: REPORTS TO: TERM: HOURS: PAY RATE: Experimental College Director ASUW Enterprises Personnel Director 46 Weeks 25 Hours/Week $1186.00/Month JOB SUMMARY: The Experimental College Director is the chief executive of a net-zero alternative education college employing and supervising the Assistant Director and Webmaster while generally overseeing the rest of the staff. The Director’s primary responsibility is to plan, direct, and monitor all College operations, and to assume ultimate responsibility for the College and following the Experimental College Mandate and mission. The Director is responsible for considering and balancing the interests of the ASUW, instructors, ExCo students, and the staff and making decisions accordingly. They will report to the Board of Directors and work with an SAO adviser. More specifically, the Director is responsible for all external operations including supervising catalog production, arranging catalog printing and mailing, monitoring public relations activities, monitoring accounting activities, and developing/evolving the goals of the organization on a regular basis to move ExCo forward. JOB DESCRIPTION: 1. Responsible for the external daily operations of the Experimental College. 2. Work with the Assistant Director to establish personnel policies and management guidelines for internal employees. 3. Responsible for all catalog production functions including communicating with UW Publication Services, UW Mailing Services, and outside vendors. 4. Train the Assistant Director in all aspects of the Experimental College daily operations. 5. Train the Assistant Director for all staff positions. 6. Train the Assistant Director in the preparation of the Experimental College annual budget in accordance to the ASUW Finance and Budget Committee guidelines. 7. Serve on the review committee for the current Assistant Director. 8. Serve on the hiring committee for the incoming Assistant Director. Experimental College Director, Pg. 1 9. Serve as a liaison between the Experimental College with University departments and the general public. 10. Help coordinate with the Assistant Director the acceptance and rejection of new course proposals. 11. Help coordinate various projects between departments within the Experimental College. 12. Help coordinate advertising events and other advertising efforts to further the visibility and public knowledge of the Experimental College both on and off-campus. 13. Maintain contracted services and update those services as needed. 14. Maintain strong working relationships with the Assistant Director, Student Advisor and the ASUW Vice President. 15. Establish regular office hours and inform the SAO Advisor and the ASUW Personnel Director of scheduled office hours. 16. Establish regular staff meetings throughout the quarter. 17. Establish regular marketing meetings throughout the quarter. 18. Establish meetings with the SAO Advisor and the ASW Vice President. 19. Provide direction for the College by anticipating future needs and course trends. 20. Provide direction for the College by responding promptly to problems and complaints. 21. Provide direction for the College by creating a quarterly timeline. 22. Work with the Assistant Director to train internal employees during Summer Quarter. 23. Work with the Assistant Director and Vice President to establish expectations for the Board of Directors liaison role during Summer Quarter. 24. Develop a strategic plan for the year, including, but not limited to, budget expenditures, tasks for internal staff, capital purchases, and new initiatives during Summer Quarter. 25. Evaluate data analysis from the previous fiscal year during Summer Quarter. 26. Develop a marketing strategy in coordination with the Communications Director during Summer Quarter. 27. Provide direction for the College by monitoring existing course and instructor quality including commendations and disciplinary action. 28. Attend all Board of Director meetings with the ASUW Experimental College on the agenda. Experimental College Director, Pg. 2 29. Develop and maintain communication with college instructors by developing and dispersing an annual instructor survey. 30. Develop and maintain communication with college instructors by sending out updates on the all instructor list-serve as well as timely reminders. 31. Develop and maintain communication with college instructors by chairing quarterly ECAC meetings and providing the agenda and location in advance to all instructors. 32. Develop and maintain communication with college instructors by writing the introductory letter for the quarterly newsletter. 33. To fill vacated positions within the Experimental College, in the event of an unexpected absence or resignation, until that position can be filled. 34. Maintain accurate records of changes and transitional material made throughout the year. 35. Directly supervise website maintenance and the implementation of website improvements and updates continuously throughout the year. 36. Review and adhere to conditions of employment as stated in the ASUW Personnel Policy, the signed ASUW Memorandum of Understanding and the Student Employment Handbooks. All actions must also follow the laws and procedures set by ASUW, SAO and the State of Washington. 37. Attend ASUW mandatory training sessions and staff meetings, including by not limited to the ASUW Fall Orientation and ASUW Personnel meetings. 38. Responsible for initiating a through transition with newly hired successor before finals week of Spring Quarter to ensure continuity. Prepared documents, such as a transition binder/folder, are recommended. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Be knowledgeable of the Experimental College operations and to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures, both internal and external. 2. Be knowledgeable of the ASUW policies and procedures as stated in the ASUW Handbook. 3. Be knowledgeable of all instructor policies and needs. 4. Recommended prior budgeting experience and knowledge of managerial accounting. 5. Requires ability to communicate and work well with a wide variety of people. 6. Must be able to make at least a one year commitment, including summer. 16. Must be a UW student enrolled in at least 6 undergraduate or 4 graduate credits or on leave as defined by Executive Order 50.
