7th Grade Literature: We will be reading a lot of interesting literature and plays this year. You will
have at least one novel or play assigned each marking period. You will be reading and studying these
novels both in school AND at home!





Summer Reading – Your child should have read The Skin I’m In over the summer!
Marking Period 1 – The Million Pound Bank Note – by Mark Twain
Short Story Unit
Marking Period 2 – The Cay - by Theodore Taylor
A Christmas Carol – by Charles Dickens
Slake’s Limbo – by Felice Holman
Marking Period 3 – Warriors Don’t Cry – by Melba Patillo Beals
Of Mice and Men – by John Steinbeck
Marking Period 4 – Twelfth Night – by William Shakespeare
Materials: It is very important that you are prepared for class EVERY DAY! The following
materials are required. Students that bring their materials to class everyday will receive all of their
class preparation points!










Green binder with loose-leaf
Pens and Sharpened Pencils
5 Binder Sections:
(1) Worksheets, (2) Annotation Logs, (3) ELA, (4) Homework, (5) Tests & Quizzes
All of your worksheets will be numbered and must be kept in order in the
worksheet section of your binder.
Three-hole spiral notebook
Highlighter (any color that you like ) I suggest having more than one color!
A class planner to write down all assignments and due dates.
Post Its – I suggest buying an economy package of post its because you will need
them for each novel that we will be reading.
Index Cards – We will be using index cards throughout the school year for
vocabulary and test preparation.
I suggest getting a pencil case that can be clipped into the front of your binder. You
can use it to store pens, pencils and small novels.
Class Requirements:
 Students must be on time, seated and ready to work BEFORE the bell rings.
 Students are required to abide by the class rules as stated in class.
 Students much come prepared each day with the necessary materials for class.
 All assignments must be written in the Agenda book.
 If students are absent on an exam day, they must see Mrs. Giammarino to arrange a
makeup exam.

When you are absent, you are required to call a classmate to find out the work that
you missed because you are responsible for that work despite your absence. IF a
classmate cannot be reached, email your teacher to find out what work needs to be
completed. Handouts will be available to you when you return to class.
Homework is an important part of the English curriculum. Doing all of your
homework will not only increase your final grade, but it will also provide you with
an opportunity to really learn in this class. You will receive homework four to five
days a week!
Be prepared to do a lot of reading and annotating assignments this year. You will
be working on a book at home at all times throughout the year!

Extra Help and Review Classes:



Team Center will be available for English every week!
Please come to me to schedule extra help at anytime when you feel that you are
struggling with the work that is being assigned! I am available by appointment
before or after school and at scheduled team center sessions.
As the ELA approaches, there will be assigned review classes! Students will be
required to attend their assigned review session every week!
Homework # 1 – Have your parent or guardian sign below and bring it back to class tomorrow!
This sheet must be kept in the front of the English section of your binder. After it is signed it will be placed
in the front of your English binder.
