Student Performance and Course Criteria Contract Sewanhaka High School 7th Grade PreAlgebra Ms. Cesare acesare@sewanhaka.k12.ny.us (516)488-9626 _________________________________________________________________________________________ TO: PARENT/GUARDIAN AND STUDENT ____________________________ will begin this contract on this date ________________ to help in assuring his/her success for the 2015-2016 school year in their mathematics class. GOALS FOR STUDENT: 1. Come to class on time and prepared with appropriate class materials: Binder with dividers (Notes, Homework, Tests) LABLE EACH SECTION IN BINDER* Ample supply of loose-leaf Pens/pencils/erasers Scientific calculator: we will be using the TI-30XII model in class, but any scientific calculator is acceptable. Ruler Protractor Box of tissues *The teacher will randomly check the neatness and organization of your math section in your binder. 2. Class work/Homework: There will be a “do now” sheet given at the beginning of every week. It includes class work and homework for the week. Homework is due the day after it is assigned. Students MUST bring this sheet with them every day. Homework will be checked every day at the beginning of the period. Students must include the proper heading at the top the page: Name, Date, Period, Assignment (page number and problem numbers) Students must show all work done to solve each problem and circle or highlight the final answer. NO WORK NO CREDIT! Students will receive a “0” if a homework assignment is not turned in on the due date, unless it is due to an absence. It is the student’s responsibility to make up work when they are absent. Study for exams and attend extra help when needed. *Textbook: Big Ideas Accelerated: A Common Core Curriculum ***You will also receive a corresponding workbook that you need to bring to class every day. BEHAVIOR/LATENESS 1. Students must show respect towards their teacher, their peers, and themselves at all times. 2. Three late is equivalent to one cut. REWARDS IF GOALS ARE MET: 1. A successful academic school year. 2. Consideration for advanced math placement for 8th grade if: a marking period grade of 95 is maintained throughout the year, a score of 4 is achieved on the New York State Assessment Exam, and teacher recommendation. 3. An enjoyable and fun experience in math! CONSEQUENCES IF GOALS ARE NOT MET: 1. Parent/Teacher Conference. 2. Detention and referral made to school dean. 3. Possible marking period and/or course failure. GRADING POLICY Grades: Your marking period grade will be based on tests, homework, notebook organization, and participation in class. NYS Assessment Exam: There will be a NY State Assessment Exam in the spring. The test will have both calculator and non-calculator parts. Your score on this exam will be used to place you in future math classes at Sewanhaka. Final Exam: In June, the final examination will count as one-fifth of your overall grade in the course. It will be averaged with the four marking period grades.
