Dear parents, guardians, and students,
Welcome to the 2015 – 2016 Shivela Middle School year!
Advanced Physical Science
The some of the topics in physical science that will be covered this year include: basic chemistry, basic
physics, Earth and the solar system. Advanced Physical Science will require students to cover subjects in more
depth, using more critical thinking and more inquiry type lessons. The course will cover all California Science
Content Standards (http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/documents/sciencestnd.pdf ). Students will be required to
maintain a Physical Science Notebook which will contain notes, class assignments, lab work, homework
assignments, and personal reflections. Notebooks will be collect the day of tests. In physical science (prior to
tests), an assignment list will be given to students that will be turned in the day of the test with their science
notebook. Your student’s notebook will be a good source for studying for quizzes and tests! Various projects
will be assigned throughout the year.
My goal is to build a partnership between your family and myself. Together, we can create a learning
environment that really benefits your child. I encourage you to communicate with me any concerns and/or
