Heritage Royalty, an independently owned Fee Land company established in Calgary, Alberta is seeking an experienced Royalty Income Accountant to join their team. We offer a collaborative work environment with an opportunity to make a significant contribution at all levels of the organization.
What you will be doing in this role
As the Royalty Income Accountant reporting to the Manager, Operations Accounting, you will be responsible for assisting in recording and reporting of royalty income. As an integral part of the team you will be responsible for analyzing royalty income and identifying opportunities to enhance the c ompany’s income. This position works closely with accounting and land teams as well as third parties.
Specifically, you will:
Prepare royalty income accruals
Complete monthly and quarterly reporting - provide timely reporting and analysis on royalty
income to management
Investigate and resolve variance that has reporting impact
Review and upload journal entry allocations of royalty revenue to the well level
Provide the royalty income group with accounting support, as well as completing ad-hoc queries, and reporting assignments as required
Review leases and contracts to ensure royalty compliance by payors
Resolve and collect on outstanding royalties
Assist peers and be a training resource when needed
Update documentation of process and procedures
Provide information to external auditors upon request
Assist in developing key financial controls for the organization
Process cash receipts and accounts receivable
Your qualifications for the role
The ideal candidate is professional, friendly and willing to take initiative and work with in a start-up type of environment. This role requires an individual with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience as an accountant in the oil and gas industry. The candidate is someone with strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Additional qualifications you bring include the following:
University degree or diploma in accounting or business administration is preferred.
Minimum 3 to 5 years ’ experience in oil and gas accounting
Holds or is working towards a professional accounting designation
Strong analytical skills, along with excellent organizational and communication skills
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
Experience with the Qbyte Financial Management accounting system is an asset
Experience in freehold mineral tax, T5 and non-residence tax is an asset
Effective team player with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Self-motivated, can work independently, and is able to resolve issues with minimal supervision
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a changing and unestablished work environment
Customer-service oriented, professional, adapts well to change and works well with uncertainty
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
