NAME OF COURSE: Introduction to Marketing
GRADE(S): 9-12
LENGTH OF COURSE: Semester
CREDITS: 2.5
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a one semester class covering the basics in the field of Marketing. Students will understand how marketing strategies are developed and tested prior to their adoption.
An emphasis is placed on consumer product design and redesign. Students study how foreign markets for products are developed along with foreign and domestic regulations.
Students are encouraged to join the DECA club where they can apply concepts in competition with other schools.

Students also acquire an understanding of economics, foreign markets, global economies and consumer behavior.
FIELD TRIPS & GUEST SPEAKERS:
Guest Speaker: Recruiter from Berkley Business College to discuss Business/Marketing related educational opportunities
EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT:
Tests:
• Tests will count for 35% of a students’ grade.
• There will be approximately 3-4 tests per marking period.
• Students will be tested in a variety of ways including written tests, oral tests and group presentations.
Quizzes:
• Quizzes will count for 20% of a students’ grade.
• There will be approximately 4-5 quizzes per marking period.
• Written quizzes will be given and notes will be used from time to time to assist students.
Homework:
• Homework will count for 20% of a students’ grade
• Homework will be given with each unit of study to assist students in their understanding of each unit
Classroom/Classwork:
• Classroom/Classwork will count for 20% of a students’ grade.
• Students will be given a variety of in-class assignments to assist in their understanding of each unit. This will include Papers & Projects
