Year 4 — Lion and Leopard Spring Term 1 RE Art Community and Giving & Receiving Egyptians Masks Please see the RE newsletter for ideas of how to help at home. We will be researching what different Egyptian death masks looked like in order to create our own using paper mache. We will be using paint to decorate them. To help at home: Use the internet or information books to find out more about what Egyptian death masks looked like and what they were used for. History Incredible Egyptians We will be exploring the ancient Egyptians. We will be learning about pharaohs, pyramids, hieroglyphics, farming, the River Nile, and how pharaohs were mummified. Following the Easter break we will be visiting the British Museum which houses one of the largest collections of ancient Egyptian artefacts outside Egypt. To help at home: Research ancient Egypt either using the internet or non-fiction books. Find information on some of the famous pharaohs. Music ICT Branching databases We will be learning how to use a database which sorts information through a series of “yes” and “no” questions. We will create our own branching database to sort Egyptian Gods. To help at home: Use the internet or information books to find out about the Egyptian Gods and the differences between them. Science Digestion and Teeth We will continue to work with a member of staff from Milton Keynes Music Service. We will be looking at music from around the world. We will continue our work on using tuned percussion. We will learn about the major organs of the digestive system and the way in which food is digested. We will explore how teeth play an essential part in enabling the digestive system to work efficiently. We will build on previous learning by comparing the teeth of carnivores and herbivores. To help at home: Listen to a range of music from different countries and think about how they all differ. Explore rhythm in different types of music. To help at home: Use books and the internet to look at the digestive system and how it works. PE Gymnastics We will be creating sequences with a partner involving different balances, travels and jumps. Games Invasion games We will be looking at improving our game tactics to develop our attacking and defending skills. We will be using footballs and hockey sticks in simple game situations.
