Obelisks

 Obelisks were important in the architecture
of the ancient Egyptians/ They were placed,
in pairs, at the entrance of temples.
 A number of ancient Egyptian obelisks are
known to have survived,
 These obelisks are now dispersed around
the world, and fewer than half of them
remain in Egypt.
 The obelisk symbolized the sun god Ra, and
the Egyptians believed that the god existed
within the structure.
Tombs for pharaohs

 The first type of tombs were called Mastaba tombs.
Pyramids

 Step pyramids were then designed as tombs for
pharaohs.
 They believed that they would be a stairway to the gods.

Pyramids- A lasting
achievement

 The pyramids of Giza- Built by and for King Khufu,
his son Khafre, and his grandson Menkaure. The
tallest pyramid is the Great pyramid for Khufu.
