Anatomy & Physiology 2015 Tips to Prepare for Anatomy and Physiology 1. Make hand drawings of the body systems using tracing paper and books with good detailed color pictures. The juvenile section of any public library has many books with fabulous pictures. Color the drawings and label every part. This manual exercise will help you remember more than just studying a picture you find on-line. 2. Make your own handwritten glossary for every medical and body system term mentioned in the rules. You can type it up later, but hand write it at least once. It will help you remember information better. 3. Practice the timed workstation test method. This is more stressful than just sitting and taking a test for 50 minutes. You have 1-2 minutes per station and you cannot return to a previous station. Students who see a workstation test for the first time on competition day will be at a disadvantage. 4. Each school team will be assigned to start at a different workstation. Each station has standalone content, therefore the order in which you take the test does not matter. For example, if there are 20 stations, your team may be assigned to begin at station 8 and will rotate to station 9 when time is called, ultimately finishing at workstation 7. Another school will start at station 11 and finish at station 10, etc. There will be no queue line waiting to take the test at any station. Larger regions lay out two copies of each station to accommodate more schools. 5. Make sure you begin writing your answers in the correct space on the answer sheet. If you start at station 13, be sure you record your first answer in the space for station 13. 6. Make and bring the allowed 8.5 x 11 two-sided cheat sheet to competition. Include any information you may have trouble remembering. Organize the information in a way that helps you to find it quickly at each workstation. 7. Many teams choose to divide up the material in the rules between the two students. The advantage is that each studies only half and learns it very well. The disadvantage is if something happens and one student can’t come on competition day. If you do this, have each student teach the other student in practice. You learn material better when you have to explain it to someone else. 8. Shhhhhh! Confer quietly with your partner during the test. You don’t want to give away your answers. 9. Relax and have fun learning!
