(on 11x17 paper minimum) 5. Write a descriptive essay of one of the dinosaurs present in the park. The reader should be able to feel, taste, smell, hear, or see what you are describing. Use vivid specific details to bring first-hand perceptions of the subject to life. (350 words) 6. Based on information from the novel write a brief biography of one of the main characters. Include information about their background, actions and motivations from evidence in the novel. (350 words) 7. Conflict is an important aspect of Jurassic Park. Choose three different types of conflict using different examples from the novel to demonstrate your understanding. (350 words) 25 Point Assignments 1. Write a position paper clearly outlining your beliefs surrounding the use of genetic engineering and cloning. This will require research and reflection. A position paper clearly presents a point of view and offers reasons to support this position. The purpose is to prove and affirm the writer’s stand on the issue. It must include documentation of research, 4 pages minimum. (12 font, typed, DS) 2. Write an alternate ending to the story. You may deviate as much as you wish. However, the characters that survive in the novel must survive in your alternative ending. The length should be 4 pages minimum. (12 font, typed, DS) 3. Re-write a scene from the novel based on a different point of view. All of the actions should be conveyed to the reader from the perspective of the of the character chosen. Create a diorama illustrating the setting for the novel on Isla Nublar. Your diorama must include the buildings present as well as the holding areas for the various dinosaurs as presented in the book. The representation must be based on the text not the movie 2. Create your own film adaptation of the novel. Try to present the tale in a way that is true to the novel while maintaining the interest of your audience. This should be 20 minutes at least. You will need to use props and costumes in your production. 3. In a research essay, evaluate the technology currently available for genetic manipulation and cloning. Jurassic Park is a novel about technology run amok in nature. Based on your research are the accomplishments of InGen possible with today’s technology? If so, should we reintroduce extinct species through cloning and DNA manipulation? This essay should be eight to ten pages, and requires referencing. 4. Commentators have called Jurassic Park a modern Frankenstein. Read Mary Shelley’s classic novel of science gone mad and compare it to Michael Crichton’s modern thriller. Is the comparison relevant, and in what ways are they similar and different. The comparison should have a length of eight to ten pages, typed and double spaced.
