Investigation WATER PROPERTIES
PROBLEM: How can I demonstrate the properties of cohesion,
adhesion and surface tension?
INFORMATION:
Water or H2O is a molecule with unique properties. These
properties are created by the polarity of each individual water
molecule OR by the fact that water acts like a magnet.
This magnetic or attractive force causes water molecules to
stick to each other or to other things creating the following
water properties:
 Adhesion- water will stick to other things
 Cohesion- water will stick to itself (other water)
 Surface tension- water molecules sticking to each other will
make a surface that can support small amounts of weight

PROCEDURE:
Forks
Paperclips
Dropper
Your job today is to design 3 labs that will test the 3 properties of
water above. You have a basket of materials to share that will let you
test these properties. You need to write up the procedure for each test
and the results. We will work on a conclusion tomorrow.
