If we consider all the northern material as races of L. perenne, we have to decide
whether the northern Russian material is to be placed in a (widely defined) subsp.
perenne or in a separate race, 'komarovii' or 'boreale'. If we split the L. perenne group
on two species the names are clear (L. komarovii and L. lewisii) but then we should
unite them in an aggregate - the L. perenne aggregate - with a comment. What we
can't do is to recognise the Russian plant as a separate species while we keep the
North American one within L. perenne. (Elven)
