59.20 Alchemilla L. (1753), Sp. Pl. 123. [VT]
Comments:

Two taxa included in Fl. Arct. URSS are excluded here: A. glaucescens Wallr., A. conglobata
H. Lindb. They are also missing from Tikhomirov's draft.
There are three options for the comparatively many agamospermic 'species' in ser.
Vulgares. (a) Some authors, e.g., the Löves, consider them all as subspecies of A. vulgaris L.
A similar approach is used by students of some other agamospermic groups, e.g., the
Ranunculus auricomus group. (b) Most authors consider the entities in Alchemilla fairly
distinct as agamosperms go. It is usually not much more difficult to identify and characterise
species here than in many sexual groups, with a notable exception for the A. acutidens group.
This is the approach below: treatment as normal species. (c) We could also enter broader
groups of entities and just list agamospecies as done below in, e.g., Antennaria, Taraxacum
and Hieracium. (Elven)

Alchemilla acutiloba is given in Tikhomirov's draft from Polar Ural. An occurrence is not
impossible but should be checked before acceptance. If it occurs it should be clear whether it
is native or introduced, stable or casual. Recently reported as stable both inside and close to
arctic Norway (Alm et al. 2000). (Elven)

Genus concept must be discussed, whether to separate Padus from Prunus s. str. or not. As
this separation is not usually applied in W Europe and North America, I here tentatively have
changed Gladkova's Padus to Prunus but I can see arguments for both solutions. (Elven)
Only P. padus subsp. padus is included in the draft received from Gladkova. Some part may
be missing. The 'borealis' entity must probably appear somewhere, at least in synonymy, but I
am not sure that it reaches the Arctic. I have tentatively entered it as a subspecies. Prunus
pensylvanica is also entered as a border case. (Elven)
