Anderson Lecturer April 24, 2008 Corina O. Bondi, Ph.D. Candidate Corina Bondi is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Pharmacology at the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSCSA) at San Antonio. Ms. Bondi, a Muskingum College alumna, received her B.S. in 2003, graduating Magna Cum Laude with majors in Neuroscience and Physics, and minors in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Psychology. Ms. Bondi also attended the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Craiova, Romania from 1999 – 2000. Ms. Bondi’s extensive research experience includes stereotaxic animal surgery, radioimmunoassay procedures, behavioral tests, nucleic acid and protein isolation and analysis, the study of the gene and receptor expression for insulin, and investigating the generation of recombinant adenoviral vectors and their gene transfer application in mouse stem cells. In addition to being a tireless researcher, Ms. Bondi is the recipient of a number of awards including the Travel Award from the Society for Neuroscience—only 13 women out of 30,000 people from all over the world received this aware in 2007; Travel Awards to the RIKEN Brain Science Institute Summer Lecture Course, Waco City, Japan; to the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology Workshop for Young Scientists, Nice, France; Graduate Student of the Year 2006-2007 Award from the Department of Pharmacology, UTHSCSA, and the Muskingum College John Glenn full tuition scholarship. Ms. Bondi is the author of numerous publications including seven publications in scientific journals such as Neuropsychopharmacology and Prog Neuropsychopharmacol Biol Psychiatry. She has presented posters at the Society for Neuroscience meetings, ECNPFrance, RIKEN Brain Science Institute in Tokyo, and at the annual retreats of the San Antonio Neuroscience Alliance and Pharmacology Department, UTHSCSA. She is a student member of the New York Academy of Sciences, Society for Neuroscience. In addition, Ms. Bondi has supervised the summer internship project of an undergraduate student and mentors students on a weekly basis through the Health Careers High School, San Antonio and UTHSC at San Antonio career mentor program. Ms. Bondi approaches her neuroscience research from a broad, well-rounded, and multidisciplinary perspective. For her future career path, Ms. Bondi envisions herself “as a direct participant in the advancement of the scientific field, passing down basic knowledge to new generations of students, together with the work ethic that was handed to me by my mentors and educational environment.”
