Mixed Blood Theatre: St. Joseph Worker Program Position: Box Office & Audience Outreach Associate Reports to: Managing Director Mixed Blood Theatre, a professional, multi-racial company, promotes cultural pluralism and individual equality through artistic excellence, using theater to address artificial barriers that keep people from succeeding in American society. The Big Picture With the launch of the critically acclaimed Radical Hospitality in September 2011, Mixed Blood has a new way of doing business. No-cost admission to all shows in the mainstage season allows the Box Office & Audience Outreach Associate to work with the Mixed Blood staff to ensure that the theatre’s Box Office and audience services are managed in concert. This position is central to the pursuit of Mixed Blood’s mission through the strengthening of community interaction around revolutionary access to live theatre. Job Description Mixed Blood Theatre serves traditional and non-traditional audiences alike, some of them without English language facility, and the Box Office & Audience Outreach Associate and her team are often the first contact audiences have with the organization. The Box Office & Audience Outreach Associate is responsible for all functions of the box office, front of house and audience services efforts. Ultimately, this position is responsible for creating an outstanding patron experience that both welcomes newcomers and encourages existing patrons to return often. Essential Job Duties Serve as primary reservationist in ticket office. Provide exceptional service to patrons including answering questions about productions, processing ticket orders, selling single and group tickets, processing web sales, and ensuring an excellent and smooth Radical Hospitality experience for walk-up guests. Be a knowledgeable ambassador of Mixed Blood to all constituencies. Set guidelines for ticket donations program; receive and process requests for ticket donations. Be fluent in the Total Info database software. Accurately sell tickets and track users of Radical Hospitality’s no-cost admission. Set up new events in the system. Ensure data is collected, processed and analyzed in a clean fashion. Be knowledgeable about creating and running reports specific to the box office department. Assist with database administration and maintenance as needed. Seek new ways of using the database that will increase efficiency and productivity for the organization. Recruit/retain, schedule, train, and supervise part-time audience services volunteers and ushers, under the supervision of the Community Outreach & Development Manager. Coordinate access services under the guidance of the Community Outreach & Marketing Manager. This includes: o determining dates for access performances o coordinating with production department to get accurate scripts in a timely fashion and provide them to contracted personnel. o arranging for access to rehearsals and performances for aforementioned personnel o working with Community Outreach & Marketing Manager to ensure access performances are publicized o receiving and responding to any and all requests for accommodations in a timely and courteous manner Supervise all Box Office finances. This includes making bank deposits, maintaining cash till, creating sales reports for bookkeeping and marketing staff, and being responsible for development and adherence to Box Office expense and personnel budgets. Be responsible for concessions and retail functions. This includes product selection and procurement, price determination, and promotion of available items. Manage Mixed Blood’s audience and guest survey program, and analyze subsequent data for marketing, development and outreach efforts. Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings. Assist the Community Outreach Managers with additional tasks, as needed and requested. Skills and Necessary Characteristics BA or BS degree with commitment to social justice and service Passionate about theatre, new plays and exploring ways to deeply engage audiences Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfort with and vocabulary for cross-cultural communication Facility with database management Strong facility with Microsoft Office Suite Experience and passion using new technologies and social media Thrive in a culture that values pluralism, quality, broad thinking, and risk taking Affinity for planning, analysis, and change Preferred Bilingual Spanish/English speakers will be given strong consideration (translation work and interaction with Spanish-speaking communities could be a central function of this position). These dates are normally WednesdaySunday, and in the 2013-2014 season they will occur during roughly 10-12 weeks. This is a standard schedule for Mixed Blood staff members. Exposure to other fields of interest is guaranteed—this position will have the opportunity to learn aspects of fundraising, marketing, strategic planning, finance and audience development. This position can be molded, in part, by the leadership instincts and diligence of the woman in the role—there is opportunity for expanding and improving programs, a strong level of expectation and autonomy, and significant interaction with the communities served by Mixed Blood.
