GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE Brother Knights As we turn the calendar on another year, it's time for us to focus on a busy schedule of council events in the next few months. Most are fund raisers and all require volunteer workers. If you haven't attended a KC membership meeting in some time, I invite and urge you to make a special effort to join us on Monday, January 23rd at 6:45 P.M. to recite the Rosary and/or at 7:00 P.M. for the business meeting. Attendance has been increasing over the past few months and it's been gratifying to see new faces in the crowd, and to learn of the enthusiasm and talent that they bring to the table! Since fund raising is the "$eed" that allows us to practice the first principal of our order, that of Charity, we're always open to ideas about how to improve events that we conduct during the year and we're particularly interested in hearing of any new fund raising ideas. So please make plans to attend this months meeting. See first hand what we're doing, and don't be shy about letting us hear your voice. And, following the meeting, we always enjoy a friendly schmooze session over pizza and liquid refreshment! Please join us!! Vivat Jesus Denny Reber Grand Knight THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! Mary and I really appreciated all of the help from Ben Rauen and Terry and Becky Thelan in Preparing the Christmas Party. As always it was a fun event. Terry Thelan also coordinated with the Nikki Bang Fundraiser and put together a crew to cook and serve the meal for them. Joe Morisette put together some great Santas for the calls from Santa program another success. Mark Slaikeu organized the Coffee and doughnuts with Santa. INSURANCE CORNER Brother Knights and Families, EFFECTIVE WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHURCH IN TOUGH TIMES Brother Knights and Families, Have you ever wished that you could leave a financial gift as a legacy to your parish (or favorite charity) but thought that only RICH people could afford to do this? You don't have to be wealthy to make a significant financial impact on your parish. There's a very cost effective way leaving a sizable gift that will benefit your parish. Consider making your church the beneficiary of a life insurance policy! Perhaps you have an existing policy that is no longer needed. It's a simple process to transfer an existing policy to your church or charity and your gift may even qualify as a tax write-off! Another method is to purchase a new life insurance policy and make your church the beneficiary! Small, affordable payments create a wonderful “leveraging” effect that your church will benefit from. For example, a $50 per month premium on a sixty year old person that lives to 85 can produce a legacy of over $28,000! This nearly doubles the amount you paid in. And the longer you live, the greater your gift! That's the beauty of using life insurance to leverage your giving! Oh, one more thing: your priest will LOVE you! Give me a call and I'll be happy to share the details! All of the coats have been delivered. 12 went to Richardson Elementary, 8 went to Josephs Coats, and 4 went to St. Peters School. They all were very grateful and had kids to give them to already. Next year this can be a good project to expand on. We also donated money and time for the Nikki Bang fundraiser. We also donated to the Hill Murray and North High senior classes, Women’s Life Care Center and Loaves and Fishes. MEMBERSHIP DUES We continue to collect and update the email address list. We now have over half of the council on our list. We will continue to try to improve the reliability and readability of the newsletter. If you have suggestions for improvement or if we are not delivering your newsletter electronically we may have an incorrect address so send an email to John Lawless @ maryjon.lawless@comcast.net. This Month and from now on the newsletter will be mailed to people that we cannot deliver to electronically only. FIRST DEGREE TEAM We are always looking for new members. And it is almost dues time again. We would like everyone to pay their dues in a timely manner to avoid duplicate mailings etc. We really don’t want to waste time and money sending multiple bills. We don’t want to suspend or even threaten to suspend our brothers if you are having financial trouble and are unable to pay the dues and you still want to be a Knight Contact The financial secretary or the Grand Knight and we will take care of it. The council First Degree Team is up and functioning. We would like to practice so ask the people that you know that appear to be good guys to join. We are hoping to have a Major degree on a weeknight in February to accommodate those who cannot make a Saturday event.
