GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE INSURANCE CORNER Brother Knights and Families, Brother Knights Looking for a way to spend some productive time this winter? We're about to launch into a number of important Knights of Columbus activities and we welcome your ideas for how we can make them better. To learn more about those events, to offer your suggestions, and to volunteer to help, it'd be great to see you at our monthly membership meetings. They're usually held on the third Monday of each month but double check the dates listed in the church bulletin. The fellowship we enjoy, after our business is complete, is a great opportunity to join others as we "schmooze" over pizza and liquid refreshments. So, please, join us in Fellowship Hall on December 19th at 6:45 P.M. for the rosary or at 7:00 P.M. for the business meeting. I'm confident that you'll enjoy it! "I wish each of you and your family a Blessed and Holy Christmas" Vivat Jesus GK Denny THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! Erich Hastreiter did a great job of coordinating the candle ceremony and Father Deziel did a wonderful job of honoring our deceased brothers. We are hopeful of having the Fourth Degree Honor Guard at next years mass. The Turkey Bingo was once again a great success. Thanks to the leadership of Mark Skaikeu, Al Worm and all of the brother Knights that helped out. And again we had some generous sponsors As I write this, everyone's still celebrating the stock market's huge November 30th jump of nearly 500 points! That certainly was impressive, but let's be careful not to lose sight of reality. Those who pay attention will notice that the stock market rises on headlines and pays less attention to fundamentals. Understand that I am not a “doom and gloom” person. I prefer to view the glass as “half full” not “half empty,” but I also prefer reality over emotion. If you pay close attention to the economy like I do, and I hope you do, you will see that the economic storm clouds continue to build. The European economy is on the brink of collapse and the US economy is tied more closely to Europe than ever before. The market rose primarily on the announcement that the world's central banks and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is rescuing Europe's economy (can you say “bail-out?”). It's this headline that made the market skyrocket, not economic fundamentals! Now, keep in mind the US provides 17% of the IMF's funding, meaning that we are on the hook for a huge share this risky venture. In my opinion, most European countries will not take the quick and drastic steps necessary to save themselves or alter their way of financial thinking. Instead, European politicians will use this new found source of wealth as way of forestalling the inevitable, thereby protecting their careers for a little longer. What does this mean to those who are invested in the markets? Be prepared long term for more of the same bumpy ride you been experiencing the last 10-12 years.
