GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE Brothers, It's October and that means that we are about to embark on the schedule of fund raising, and other, events for the fiscal year. We begin with Fall Festival Bingo on Friday evening, October 7th followed by Fall Booya on the 15th, and finally with Fall Major Degrees on the 29th. The success of each one of these events depends on volunteers. This is not difficult or labor intensive work and we always have a good time working together. Actually, there is one other very important event on October 10th. At 6:00 PM that evening, in Fellowship Hall, we will join with the Council of Catholic Women, to acknowledge and honor the contributions of four individuals who have been chosen to accept awards for their contributions to the betterment of our church and community. This is a wonderful opportunity to show your thanks and support for those honorees. It's a fun evening, open to all parishioners and families and snacks and refreshments will be offered following the program. Please join us as we celebrate the work of those four award recipients! Also, a reminder that October is "Respect Life" month. Among the gravest threats to human dignity are abortion, assisted suicide, euthanasia, reproductive technologies, contraception and elimination of the unborn with physical or mental disabilities. Our daily prayers to bring an end to these threats are too important to ignore. May God bless each one of you and your family. Vivat Jesu! Denny Reber Grand Knight THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! We had a Great year last year with the percentage of Knights involved in projects. Keep up the good work. INSURANCE CORNER Brother Knights and Families, My career as your KC representative gives me the opportunity to visit with many people from all walks of life. I always ask if they currently work with a financial planner. When they say “yes,” I like to ask a follow up question: “Has your planner ever told you when it's a “good” time to sell your stocks?” Only occasionally do I hear an affirmative to that question. They are typically told one of the following when the markets are going down: 1. Don't get out now! The market always comes back. 2. Let it ride! (Hmmm.... isn't this a gambling term?) 3. Now is the time to buy more! Now, I'm not against owning stocks, but I do remember when it was a rich man's game, that is until the advent of the 401k. People used to be able to count on the guaranteed income that pensions provide. You can bring this stability back to your portfolio by investing in a Knights of Columbus guaranteed annuity. In fact, if you had placed $100,000 into a KC annuity on January 1, 2000, it would have grown in value by December 30, 2010, to at least $150,000 (plus bonus interest!). By comparison, the S&P 500 would have provided you only $104,000 during the same period. A Knights of Columbus flexible premium annuity is guaranteed never to lose money and is currently guaranteed to earn at least 3% return annually! Maybe it's time to think about that KC annuity!
